Have you installed the drivers?
The nanoVNA uses a serial to USB device to convers on USB. Check out FTDI for the latest drivers.

Nothing in the device manager, and nothing under devices. Tried several times with the drivers, tried cleaning the registry, etc.....then switched to win 10 thinking it would be easy there....no luck.

With Win7 you need to manually install the driver. See the Wiki in this group for details..
