For a long time we are preparing our Scout Hams to contact the World Scout Jamboree and the official station NA1WJ.
As the propagation is not so good, we incentivated them to prepare their Echolink stations to contact the camp.
What happens is that there is noone answering the calls over the Conference JAMBO. There is no representative from NA1WJ, but we can see always more then 7 ou 8 Brazilian stations waiting.
Could you please ask someone to help us and to attend the Echolink conference? Please?
If you could to suggest any other way to contact you throught Echolink, please, let us know.
Thanks in advance.

Ok

Re: Echolink issues with *JAMBO*

We have fixed *JAMBO* and linked both VHF/UHF repeaters into the conference node.? Feel free to connect to *JAMBO* instead of connecting directly.? I will be shutting off direct connection access after we get a full day of solid connectivity on *JAMBO*.

SOTA with W6BB Sunday July 21

Chris Harwood

Hi NA1WJ

This Sunday morning (July 21) to early afternoon, the University of California, Berkeley amateur radio club W6BB will be on the air ?from Vollmer Peak W6/NC-298.?

Looking to make contact with NA1WJ despite the bleak propagation + QRP.

We will have one Girl Scout with us so we must try!

Sounds good. While I’m now at the Summit I haven’t been to the station yet, but will get there in the morning.?

The period from 1900 to 2200 has lately been best for East Coast US to Europe on 20 Meters. So that confirms your VOACAP prediction

Hope to talk to you on the air in a few days. Your QRO and beams will help!

Gary,
Thanks for yr rapid reply. Its very helpful, the WSJ team thoughts are similar to ours about Zello - possibly useful for event management, but not amateur radio!
One of our team is keen on Echolink and another has D-Star so we shall probably be using these modes.
Our primary effort will be on HF. We have QRO for 14, 18, 21 and 28 Mhz with a three ele yagi on the tower. We shall also be around after hours on 7 MHz. That band seems to be open some nights from GM to East Coast USA after midnight UT.
VOACAP says that 14MHz might be the best band for a QSO in your "working hours" at around 21 hrs UT. We shall see!
Looking forward to our Scouts speaking with yours! via GB0FFS

Malcolm:

To my recollection, the question of using the smartphone chat group conferencing application ZELLO as a talk mechanism for NA1WJ never came up, as it really has nothing to do with Amateur Radio. It’s strictly cell phones.?

There was some totally independent discussion of non ham staff members of the WSJ using it for other administrative purposes, but that’s about it.?

So I guess the answer is “No, since it’s not Amateur Radio”

We look forward to talking to you during the WSJ!

I'm not a great fan of ZELLO but one of our Scouters is asking whether there is an official ZELLO name for WSJ - i.e. one that is authorised and closed to Scouts only??

We are still aiming to make HF QSOs using the call GB0FFS, (Fordell Firs Scouts), as well as Echolink and D-Star, but the ZELLO question came up at our club meeting last evening and I'd appreciate a reply from the WSJ team. Thanks.
