Jed - 145.280 doesn't have very good coverage in the RF hole of my home QTH, I can get into 14.145 though, I usually monitor that one. Either way I will be here, see you in the AM.

Hi Jed, I will be around tomorrow morning, Saturday 6/10/23, 9:30-12:00 if that works for you.
It has a fresh clean install of Windows. These did not ship with install media, just Google "Create installation media for Windows", Microsoft has a free tool to make a USB drive. The "key" is recorded with Microsoft, the first time it is connected to the internet it is activated. You will have the admins creds. You can easily setup Remote Desktop or VNC, whichever you prefer, to run headless. I am a Linux guy too, these will also run Linux just fine.

Okay, I'll take it. Looks like you're pretty close to my QTH. I'm pretty much free all weekend, if it works for you, I can come by.
If you have the original install media (or recovery disk?), that'd be cool. And I would like to be sure I can log in as an administrator.
I don't know yet how I'm going to get this going here, maybe find a cheap monitor at a thrift store, or use my TV. Doesn't matter in the long run, but for setting it up, I'll need to come up with something. :)
I figure my worst-case scenario is I give up on Windows, and use it as a machine to work on something like getting Arch Linux going.

Hi Jed, it is clean and fully legal copy of Windows 10 Pro. I have also successfully loaded Windows 11 Pro on this model, there are a couple of minor issues you have to work around TPM versions etc, but it can be done.

I'm a little tempted.I've pondered the notion of getting a micro-desktop, since I don't have a good spot for another full-size computer. I know, this isn't quite as small as it gets, but it's more do-able.
My use would be to run things such as the Anytone CPS, and Contact Manager, maybe some other things that are Windoze only.
The kicker for me would be getting it running headless, and using remote desktop to use it. My most recent past experiments with remote desktop have failed, due to some security issue I wasn't able to figure out. I've never been a whiz on MS security management - it always seems to me that they hide the fundamentals behind dumbed-down language in the control panel. FWIW, the machine I was trying to remote into is running Win7, and maybe the Linux RDP stuff is "upgraded" to need to the newer stuff, whatever it is. But it seemed to me, at the time, that it was the Win box that was causing the problem.
But, for information sake, what version of Windows? Pro or Home?
Since I haven't messed around with moving a Windows install to another HD since probably the days of Win95 (or maybe Win8), I wonder about swapping out the HD for an SSD. Should be easy, but then a lot of things seem so, but actually aren't.

I created a free hashtag, if I wasn't supposed to do that or did it wrong I apologize and will gladly delete or change anything that needs changing. I thought I would create a free area, just like at a swap meet.
I have a Dell mini tower OptiPlex 7040 i5, 8GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, DVD/RW, keyboard, mouse & speakers, clean install of Windows. It works great, I use one in my shack, but don't need another one. The one I am keeping I put a SSD in it and it really sped things up. Did I mention it was free?

Very cool! I know my AirBoss easily went over my ~50' Blue Spruce tree....that thing is a bit scary, given that it's got a 4 oz lead weight on the end of the line. Warning: Miady battery does not have F2 terminals

Just an FYI for anyone looking at batteries for portable operation - Miady's spec sheet indicates F2 Faston terminals. The F2 is the typical .25" blade type connector we all probably have a ton of connectors for, and which you can buy every day at multiple stores. The Miady 8AH battery that I bought has F1 terminals - these are .1875 (3/16)". There doesn't seem to be any local vendor, open on Sunday, where I can buy the female connectors in this size.
Adapters to go from F1 to F2 are available from Home Depot, but are non-stock items. Besides which, every connection has some voltage drop, and the Miady is already a compromise at 12.8V.
I'm considering whether to solder to the terminals, or dig out my old car stereo stuff (not readily accessible) to see if I have any F1 connectors on hand.

Hi all, I¡¯m on vacation in Florida and today was a ¡°down day¡± from the parks and beaches, so I decided to buy the Flex ¡°SmartSDR¡± software for iOS ($64) and try to get it working with the club remote station. It took a bit of work, primarily because I can¡¯t change the MTU aka frame size on the network (since we¡¯re at a condo and I can¡¯t change the MTU on the iPad). I wound up using a VPN tunnel back to my house, where I have the MTU set correctly, and it worked. At any rate, I have been out playing on FT8 and I¡¯ve also monitored a number of SSB conversations. When I get a little more time, I¡¯ll put my AirPods on and will see if I can get a phone QSO going.? Pretty cool stuff. #EFHW 40M - getting close to the finish

This project is far enough along, I figured I'd post a photo. It's an EFHW, 40M, which will have a capacitor compensation stuck at about 25 feet on the wire. The frame is made from 1/8" acetal stock, because it's what was handy. I wound the transformer as a 56:1 autotransformer. Yeah, I didn't leave enough room from the wire connector to the first strain relief hole, and that's bugging me enough that I'll probably use just 2 of them. :-P And, I need to get a longer #6 screw for the ground, for connecting the counterpoise wire. Every radio project requires at least one trip to the hardware store. Antenna connection is a BNC.

This is a long overdue change to the Amateur Radio regulations. The symbol rate limit is the product of a very old (in internet time) linkage between Baudot encoding and bandwidth. New technologies have long since outstripped this.
