January academy cancelled
Just to confirm RYAS has cancelled the January academy. Gather Gillies discussed it at Largs with a few parents. It's the middle weekend of prelims for a lot of boats. Also any Tay based boats. Bill Carson is starting the dart training this Saturday and running every Saturday from now on. Down for 9, launch 9:30, off water 12:30. Means there's rescue cover if anyone wants to go out. If doing it probably better to confirm with Bill in advance. Bear

Hot food options for Largs this weekend
2
Hi all, Arranged with Julia at Largs to have some hot food options for sailors that will be available to order and pay for via me on Saturday morning. The bar will be open for normal food orders, toasties, baked potatoes etc during the day but if everyone orders for all the 22 sailors at midday at the bar it could take a while to get food actually out to them all and you'd need to take it downstairs etc. I've done a google sheet, either fill it in just now or you can do on Saturday am when you pay me but please bring the correct change because I won't have any! Will need a couple of volunteers to help distribute food etc. If we can order and pay for both days on Saturday AM that would be great. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pnBU60TguR5oQMQgcGy06Uj0LGefvQmxN7Y7lzutbvI/edit?usp=sharing Bear. PS I've not got email for Matthew George and Tess Crooks in 420 fleet so can you let them know Fiona please. Info from Julia.:- Hi David Okay, I¡¯ve spoken to Bosuns and we¡¯ll do something similar to what we did for the Toppers on Sunday¡. Pre-order forms ready for you to pass round the parents and if you collect the cash that keeps the cost down. Can I suggest we collect for both days on Saturday morning and that¡¯s it done then for the weekend? Soup ?2 per head (?4 for both days) - I¡¯ll find out the soup on Saturday morning Sandwich ?2 per head (?4 for both days) - Brown or white bread. Ham, cheese or tuna Pasta ?2 per head (?4 for both days) - tomato based pasta, suitable for vege¡¯s Any combination of the above as long as ordered upfront that morning. We¡¯ll throw in diluting juice but snack bars etc will need to be purchased separately. And I need to know about any gluten-free diets¡. And I will need parents to help distribute this to keep the prices down. The bar will be open from 9.30am for hot rolls, coffees, etc, selling toasties and baked potatoes at lunchtime. On Sunday we have our club AGM so the Lounge will be shut to non-members from 3pm so your parents will need to move to the Hems Kalsi room, I¡¯m afraid, and the bar will close. We have a vending machine for hot drinks on the landing upstairs, along with an honesty box for crisps and snacks. See you Saturday Julia

Sailing at Tay 16/17th November
4
Have got rib for Saturday 16th at Tay and planning on doing a full day for any boats that fancy it. Tide is pretty good. There's two races starting at 12 on Sunday if any visitors want to make a weekend of it, we could take rib out for a sail on Sunday pre race if anyone fancies it. Bear

Helensburgh catering 29er academy
10
Before I forget quick email re this coming weekend at Helensburgh. Spoke to Jayne at HSC today. There's no other classes there so sadly, but completely understandably, no catering. However she's said she'll do a big pan of soup and leave at club so there's something hot which s great! She's said we're welcome to use rest of kitchen, there's a couple of microwaves, toastie machine etc. She'll leave out tea, coffee and milk and there's an urn. Am assuming we'll all bring stuff to suit our sailors and reheat like Lomond last year. Saturday evening I'll be around with Suzie and Alex, assume David ibbotson and his two. Anyone else staying over? Bear Ps copied in Gillies and Anna so they know what to expect as well.

Sailing 12th October

Suzie's taking out Fergus from CCC to 29er tomorrow am at Tay, forecast looking interesting for that! Anyone else either want to bring boat along and sail or if single this weekend want to come along and swap around between rib and 29er. Can make more of a day of it if they're getting a rest in the rib. Bear

Europeans cancelled
Hi all, Just heard that Medemblik have withdrawn their offer to host the 29er Europeans in 2020 so don't book accommodation etc. We don't know why and the international class is looking to hold somewhere else but it's going to be a while before that gets sorted I'm afraid. There should be an email coming out from the UK class shortly letting folk know, in the meantime don't put anything up on social media etc about it. Cheers Bear

Sails

Hi all, Just in case anyone out there has some a decent main that might be spare or could be sold on to help fund an upgrade - we are currently without a mainsail (and reluctant for obvious reasons to invest in a brand new one just yet) You could argue, as I did, that outriggers might be a more appropriate investment but apparently that¡¯s missing the point Optimistically yours Fergal ________________________________________________________________________ This e-mail has been scanned for all viruses by Claranet. Academy dinner
7
Hi all After much discussion we have decided it would be good to have some evening food before everyone rushes away. I propose that we dig out the club bbq and those who wish bring their own meat to cook. We could always nip up to ASDA to save keeping food fresh during the day. I will arrange baked potatoes to go with it. Regards - Andy Andy Robertson 30b Bridge Street Dollar FK14 7DE m: +44 7836 255 044 Skype: andysr11 Twitter: @andyr11

RYA Zones
19
Only 2 29er signed up for the zones at DBSC so far, entry closes on Sunday, would be good if we had a few more - 8 boats at the academy the weekend before! Richard

Youth regatta and Sunday sail
There's a youth regatta on at Tay this Saturday if folk are interested. First start is 12 so we could potentially do a wee bit on the water beforehand to make a full day of it. Forecast also pretty nice for Sunday as well if folk want to make a weekend of it? Not quite as warm as last weekend though!! Bear David Sturrock Angus Heathers Ltd. September 29er summer academy
Matt hadn't been aware that we'd an event planned at Tay when he suddenly thought he should provide a bit more summer training for the 29ers. Anyway given a couple of boats are away to GP1 the preceding weekend we're as well going with the academy at DBSC followed by zones the following weekend. Will reorganize NS1 for another date/location? Probably after Scottish exams in 2020 Andy and the rest at DBSC are going to look at doing communal catering similar to the weekend we had at Tummel last autumn and folk can camp at the club so it's a great chance for any new transition sailors to get a great weekend training on the water but also just as importantly to meet up socially with all of the existing sailors. Ditto for parents, hoping Feargal's got some sample bottles of wine that he's had to crack open for David Ibbotson like last year!!! New sailors would then have had a proper weekend of training at the zones venue with a RYAS coach, then leave their boats there and do zones following weekend. Our gang after their first weekend 29ering at Tummel last year then just went straight to the zones at Helensburgh and had a ball. What do you recon David, David and Jess, sound of interest? Dalgety Bay is just a couple of hours from Derwent. We should have 6 boats at least I would have thought without any of the newbies and it's a great way of meeting the gang, both sailors and parents. Also if any of the feva sailors are thinking of coming into the 29er fleet this would be a great start, couple of good weekends whilst it's still warm. You need to sign up to academy by 1st September though. We'd try and do a bit of pre academy training as well on the Tay. Antony, if you reckon the 420s would want to put their name in the pot as it were let us know, would be good to include all the youth sailors in the social side. For those new to this group the outline plan is on a google spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_m4MaKMhCVG7P7hdOYq2f514UigURSbz_5954DANi7g Bear

Saturday 24th
There's a couple of us planning being out on the Tay this Saturday. It's a club sailing session from 9:30 and then we'll probably man a rib once it finishes. Suzie sailing with Ross Mauritzen once he gets down from playing rugby and Eoghan going out with Seb and they'll both be out for a fair while! Any other takers. Forecast to be 20 degrees so hopefully sea breeze with ebb tide so could be downwind blasting. Also there's a youth regatta at Tay on the 31st, following Saturday. Anyone fancy coming along to that. I assume mid dayish start so we could do some free sailing beforehand. Could potentially sail Sunday of either weekends as well if any one is keen? If any either of the Feva parents that are now in email group fancy bringing their saiors along either weekend let me know and we'll see what we can fix up. Bear

Northern Series 2019/20
7
Final calendar for Northern race events for 2019/20 Taken out the RYAS Springs as already discussed and put in the windward/leeward at the Tay in its place. Full list of events and other options for the class to go as a group to are on google sheet. Matt will hopefully have the academy dates soon. Once he's got them I'll try and do a class weekend somewhere similar to that weekend at Tummel last year to get new folk involved. Looks like the nationals in 2020 will start a day earlier than previously planned. Practice race Sat 8th, first day racing Sunday 9th 2020. Will update once it's confirmed. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_m4MaKMhCVG7P7hdOYq2f514UigURSbz_5954DANi7g/edit?usp=sharing Bear

Academy dates

Hi all Academy 4 dates (18-19 January) are likely to be in middle of prelims for Catriona and Evie - is anyone else affected? Susan Sent from Windows Mail

Dates for 2019/20
2
That should be all the main dates in place now. RYAS academy dates are on attached pic. Last 5 are all shared with the 420 class - suspect they chose the locations?? There's not many spare dates for open class/transition training in that schedule. If anyone's got any ideas let me know. At the moment we've not really got any definite Scottish transition boats this year, lots of interest at transition weekend but I've not heard anything since. Hoping couple of Derwent boats joining the gang this year now that their oppy days are over? I've updated the google spreadsheet in case it's of use for folk. I'll do a simplified version for the northern FB page. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_m4MaKMhCVG7P7hdOYq2f514UigURSbz_5954DANi7g/edit?usp=sharing Tummel date for 2020 in there as well. Except for keen beans that are going to Medemblik for Euros I think we should aim to make Tummel Week 2020 a 29er must do event. I think it's great to have something that's just good fun and the racing is very much secondary. Think it worked brilliantly this year. Angie has done a write up and 29er gang get a very good press!! Assume she'll do finished version to Y&Y. I'll try and get dates out of 29er Ireland asap so folk can maybe plan in a wee trip over next spring/summer. They seem to run in calendar years. Hopefully we can get a few coming over to Largs in July Hope nationals go well, have a beer or two in Spoons for me. Bear
