Re: How does my car know¡

Harry, Don¡¯t believe a word of it. There¡¯s actually a little guy with a pressure gauge who lives in the rim of your tire (well, actually four of them since you have four tires). They monitor the tire pressure every 10 seconds ¡ª it¡¯s a thankless job ¡ª and report any anomalies to the slightly bigger guy who lives behind your dashboard, who activates a warning message if he thinks it¡¯s warranted. The reason the tires are so expensive to replace is that they have to pay a rather exorbitant severance fee to each little guy that gets displaced when the new tire is installed. To make matters worse they have a DEI policy that forces them to hire some guagers that aren¡¯t always the most competent. But that¡¯s another story, and I¡¯m pretty sure President Trusk is going to take care of it soon. On Feb 6, 2025, at 1:45?PM, Harry Jacobson-Beyer via groups.io <hejb44@...> wrote: |

A sensor just went out on my Prius and needed to be replaced. The sensors have batteries. The battery in one of the four sensors was dead, and the batteries can¡¯t be replaced, so the whole sensor had to go. I found this Web page informative. <> It cost me $93 for the sensor and programming at Big-O Tires. I replaced a tire at the same time. They certainly don¡¯t communicate with the car using Bluetooth because Bluetooth uses frequencies around 2.4 GHz and the sensors are down around 400 MHz. L^2 |
Re: How does my car know¡
Here is the Car Talk article about the pressure sensors, along with advice about where to get them replaced. (Hint: it's not the dealer.)

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHere you go Harry!John Tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) that use valve stems to read tire pressure work by?incorporating wireless sensors within the valve stem itself?(or very close to it, attached to the base).?These sensors measure the tire pressure and transmit this information wirelessly to a receiver in your vehicle, which then alerts you through a dashboard light if the pressure is low.? Does it send it wirelessly? Or is the sensor connected by wires and permanently installed in the rim? On Feb 6, 2025, at 11:53?AM, John Robinson via groups.io <profilecovenant@...> wrote: |
Re: How does my car know¡
Harry, there is a valve stem with a sensor that reads the pressure & sends it to your car computer.

Sorta expensive to replace one but they are invaluable. John On Feb 6, 2025, at 11:47?AM, Harry Jacobson-Beyer via groups.io <hejb44@...> wrote: |
Re: Managing email folders
At least the advantage of old moldering email over paper mail is that it doesn't take up any real space and it is so nicely dated that ditching everything over x years old is simple and needs no shredder.

Great philosophy Harry! No joy¡no save. I found some today that not only didn¡¯t bring joy, they didn¡¯t bring anything! Inactive / dead links that I was saving. What a waste.

I had some success today, due to the fact I had a tooth pulled and was told to have a rest day. Sat in a recliner for several hours and went thru the folders and deleted so many old, useless emails. I don¡¯t recommend the tooth pulling part, but I¡¯m glad my email collection is slimmed down now. Good luck with yours. (And don¡¯t save this one!!) Re: Managing email folders
I too have a large ¡°documents directory¡± of emails I have saved in Apple mail. If if viewed one a day it would take me forever. Some of these mailboxes go four levels or more! I do ocassionally try and clear out a mailbox when I realize that that ¡°event¡± is over.
I wish there was an app that I could transfer my mail documents (Mailboxes) to That way I would probably do so once a year. I am an officer in a number of groups I belong to and I am amazed howoften I need to refer to previous emails (received or sent) to answer some members question - prove I sent them a message, etc. |

I have the same problem - I have never looked at any of the saved emails so I figure I don¡¯t really need them but yet I can¡¯t bear to get rid of them. When I get to the point of being tired of all of the mail folders I think I will just delete each folder and not bother with seeing what¡¯s in them. Throw it away if you haven¡¯t touched them in X# of weeks?, months?, years?, decades?. If, when you touch it it doesn¡¯t bring you joy, throw it away! Good luck and let me know what you decide. Managing email folders
There may be no easy way to solve my issue, but I¡¯ll throw it out there.
Been using Apple¡¯s Mail for ever and ever. Over the years, I have created ¡®folders¡¯ to move email into and save for whatever reason. Now I have folders full of different out-dated receipts, dead web links, and more useless info than a junk drawer in my kitchen. I guess I just have to take a folder a day and click through each email and save or toss. Anyone one have a magic spell or a technique to help clean these up? Thanks Bill M. |
Re: Geeking out
I don¡¯t travel with the laptop either - except when we go to Alabama to visit my son. We are there 2-4 weeks at a time twice a year so I got the second screen just for those times.
