I think it was Steve, whom did a very excellent and comprehensive list of suitable transistors exactly as you are asking.
The 5551 is very good but obsolete so dont buy from ebay as you will get fakes. As is the 5109.. etc etc ..
Btw Chavdar does not use 2222’s in his commercial unit..( LZ1AQ)
