Locked Re: Regenerative receivers and loop antennas

i am not the original poster. However, your last comment struck a particular chord with me - Am i a glutton for punishment? Why yes, and thank you ! ? :) The rest of what you write makes perfect sense; just, i enjoy punishing myself.?

It seems to me the answers you got so far were not very helpful.

If the idea of crossing a large lake in a kayak, with the wind often against you, you might enjoy the sport of ¡°regenerative receivers¡±.

Otherwise, i would read and look at online reviews, pick a portable multiband radio which is rated well for tuning ease, able to fine

tune in very small increments without any chuff-chuff-chuff tuning sound, a tuning knob of course and not those silly up and down buttons,

and that is rated as sensitive with only its telescopic whip antenna. A very few feet of wire pushed out the window or even on it may help

you pick up signals. I would say, if this doesn¡¯t get you good reception, or the electrical interference noise is great, then you can look into

buying a broadband loop antenna. You would have to hang it up near the window, i think, for best reception. But you? should solve the

receiver question first. Forget regens and direct-conversion radios unless you are actually seeking to make radio listening more of a

challenge than it already seems.
