That Soundcard/Devices tab must be in a later version of Fldigi than the 4.2.03 version that I have.? I don't have the pipewire selection available on the tab.
But I will keep it in mind when I can upgrade.?
As of now the latest .deb file I can access is for Fldigi 4.2.03.? I see that a 4.2.06 tar.gz file is available but I am not sufficiently knowledgeable to build an installation from it.? So I will have to wait until a later version is available in .deb format.?? Or I will have to learn how to install from the tar.gz file - maybe give it a try soon.

Bob, I much appreciate your quick reply.? I think you have found my problem.
I never thought about the recording tab as having the effect that it does.
The pulldown was set to "Monitor of PCM2903C CODEC"
I changed it to simply "PCM2903C CODEC" and that solved the problem.? I now have audio to Fldigi.
I will have to look up what the "Monitor" function is!!!

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Bill IME a PulseAudio server string is not needed except in special cases. (like connecting to a server on another machine) My first thought is that fldigi is defaulting to another sound card source, that isn't the rig. In my Pavucontrol for example the recording tab has a pulldown source selection for the PC sound card and the Icom. Might yours be set wrongly? eg the internal PC sound card rather than the rigs. (however your hardware is setup) Oh and also check the recording source isn't muted. Also check for input on fldigi by toggling the WF, FFT & SIG button. I have successfully installed Fldigi 4.2.03 on Ubuntu 24.4 I have good rig-control between Fldigi and my transceiver. But I am unable to get audio from my transceiver to Fldigi. ? I do have audio from my transceiver to my computer because I can see it on the Pulse Audio Volume control bar-graph. ? Ubuntu 24.04 uses Pipewire for audio, but W1HJK indicates that this is not an issue with Fldigi. ? On Fldigi configuration/Soundcard/Devices I select PulseAudio but I have no clue how to determine the Server string. Therefor this is probably the issue I am facing. ? I have looked up Server string in the file fldigi_def.xml <PULSESERVER></PULSESERVER> Putting that in for the Server String field on the configuration window, I get a Pulse Audio error: ¡°Connection refused¡± ¡°Is the server running?¡± ? Yes, scratch everything I said earlier. ?For FSK on the IC-7610, I most certainly need to be in "RTTY" mode on the rig.

The reason for the offset in my screenshot is that the sweet spot frequency for FSK RTTY is at 2210 Hz, not 1500 Hz for AFSK RTTY. ?Once I set the sweet spot frequency in fldigi, the signal was centered on the fldigi waterfall.

Running Linux on a Chromebook
I have been trying to run FlDigi in Linux,? no luck at all.??
Stats:? ?Chromebook,? Linux penguin,? (setup by? a friend for his BBS) Anyone 5888uv,? with a Digi rig.?
FlDigi is downloaded and unzipped then nothing.? My friend says I have all the proper cables and hardware.

Is a a hardware issue or a total lack of Linux knowledge?

Your radio (and FLDigi) are doing the right thing. When you switch to RTTY mode, the passband changes to the standard "high tone" filters from the days before computers, up at 2125 Hz. See Bill Henry's (K9GWT) article "Let's Get on Frequency" where he treats this pretty well.

From your screen shot in your posting, I can see that you have full audio from the radio to FLDigi starting at about 1950 Hz all the way up to 2500 Hz. This behavior is different when using AFSK and the 'digital USB' mode of the radio. And I see the same thing on my Icoms and also Yaesu and Kenwood radios as well.
?
Find a RTTY signal and tune him in this way, and you will start to see characters appear on the FLDigi screen just like you are used to.

Be as it may, my question was specifically regarding receive, not transmit when in "RTTY" mode. ?Since my last post, I have confirmed that the "RTTY" mode on the IC-7610 is strictly for use with the built-in RTTY functionality on the IC-7610, not for use with a PC and RTTY software. ?This is described in the IC-7610 Advanced Manual and the Icom IC-7610 guide book written by Andrew Barron, ZL3DW. ?Given that, I'll continue to use LSB-D1 mode on the IC-7610 for both receive and transmit via fldigi.
?
Once I get my patch cable made between the WinKeyer and the IC-7610, I'll try RigCAT initially. ?If that doesn't work, I'll explore flrig as you suggested.

Larry, You did not say which rig control method? you are using. May I suggest using flrig as the control agent; and also use the flrig FSK interface, shown here for the IC7300 on Linux: This works identically on my M2 mini, Intel-mini, M4 Airbook Pro, and Windows-11.? When I change modes on the Icom IC-7610 from LSB-D1 to RTTY, fldigi does not change from LSB-D to RTTY. ?It does reflect changes in the Icom IC-7610 filter though. ?If I change modes in fldigi, it will change to LSB-D1 on the IC-7610 but not to RTTY.

Reading the Icom IC-7610 advanced manual, it would appear the IC-7610's RTTY mode is strictly for use when using the radio without a PC. ?This isn't intuitive to me, but that's probably explains what I am seeing.

I'm off to re-review K0PIR's information and other data on the web as to how to use fldigi using FSK via WinKeyer and the IC-7610.
?
Sidenote: I'm using fldigi on a Mac without a corresponding logger to control fldigi. ?I do have MacLoggerDX logging QSOs from fldigi when they are logged there, but that's all.

fldigi waterfall offset when using Icom IC-7610 in RTTY mode
OK, this has me stumped. ? I'm looking to change fldigi from using AFSK to FSK for RTTY with my Icom IC-7610.? Everything has been configured to work fine using AFSK. ? While I'm still working on the FSK transmit connection using WinKeyer USB, I have a question about the waterfall display when receiving audio in RTTY mode on the IC-7610.? Instead of the display being centered at the 1500 KHz mark, it is offset almost 750 Hz up.? This is quite obvious when the 500 KHz filter is enabled on the Icom IC-7610 in RTTY mode.? Please see the attached (note there was no signal present on the frequency when this was taken). ? What do I need to set to center the display like when I'm using AFSK? ? Larry KS9J ? |
