To echo David's statements here, it really all comes down to who is actually maintaining?the software.
For Fedora, I maintain most of the ham radio related packages and I do my best to keep them up to date, but to be clear, my $DAYJOB has nothing to do with ham radio and is only tangentially related to linux. I'm a volunteer who has literally spent thousands of unpaid hours maintaining packages for Fedora. It's a labor of love, but as soon as you assert expectations of my time, we have an issue.
This is both the blessing and the curse of open source software and distributions.?
