CALL FOR ARTIST: Community Development Initiative to work alongside local small businesses in Crenshaw
Dear LA Creative Community, Our organization is currently working with public and private partners to develop LA Carnival on the Shaw, an economic development initiative along portions of Crenshaw Blvd. in South LA. A major part of the project is to engage artists to work with businesses along Crenshaw to bring creativity, art, entertainment and joy to their establishments to encourage more visitors to their businesses. We are now hiring artists to begin working with the project to create ‘LA Carnival Vibe Spots’ along the parade route. The parade route is along Crenshaw from Obama/Expo Metro Station to Leimert Park Metro Station, including Leimert Park Village itself. Our team will also lead participants in crafting either a literary or visual piece of art that participants can submit to Art Block Zine; Vol. 10: LA Time Capsule. The Sunflower Project is excited to announce the inaugural Demand To Be Heard residency, supporting performing artists who are survivors of gender-based violence, interpartner violence, domestic violence and/or sexual assault. A catalyst for self-discovery and personal growth, Demand To Be Heard invites survivors to shatter the barriers of stigma, cultivate empathy, understanding, and support among a wider community. This platform raises awareness about the impact of trauma, challenges societal misconceptions, and fosters a culture of healing and resilience. APPLY / LEAN MORE HERE We encourage survivors from all backgrounds and experiences to embrace their creativity and participate in this transformative initiative. By sharing their art and stories, survivors not only empower themselves but also inspire others who may be on their own healing journey. The Demand To Be Heard residency will support artists in developing work to reflect their lived experience as a survivor, and will provide an opportunity for artists to show their work in a culminating production. Resident artists will receive: Group workshops led by professional performing artists, body workers, writers, educators, and leaders in the gender-based violence field. The proposed design must stay within the existing crosswalk area. 2025 Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internships in Los Angeles County
For over 30 years, the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program has funded paid summer internships for outstanding students who are underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations. This can include—among other things—socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives. Eligibility is limited to currently enrolled undergraduates (bachelor's degree program, associate's degree program, or vocational or technical program below the baccalaureate level) who reside in or attend college in LA County. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 2025 and be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible. Candidates may come from all areas of undergraduate study and need not have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts. Approved applications will be placed on a Moving Image Media Art Program (MIMA) Prequalified List for Art Consultants. Ideal candidates are art consultants with experience in working with moving image artists, large-scale digital screens, and a track record of successful exhibitions of moving image artwork. Qualified applicants that meet the minimum qualifications, as specified below, are invited to apply: At least two (2) years of experience in digital art project management, curation, and presentation of large-scale digital screen exhibitions. Ability to meet the City insurance requirements (see Section H. Insurance). Ability to review the exhibitions in situ, make in-person presentations, and attend in-person meetings as assigned. Annual Institute Volunteer Application
Our Annual Institute Volunteer Scholarship application is now live! MESC will award up to 8 free volunteer positions for our Annual Institute on May 19th at the Autry Museum. Volunteers will assist with day-of duties and will gain access to the keynote address and Institute breakout sessions. Tickets will also include morning refreshments and lunch. MESC will review all submissions after March 31st, 2025. Scholarship awardees will be contacted on a rolling basis and will not be announced publicly.
