DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

IFFLA is hiring a Development Manager to support the organization’s mission to present the most exciting and groundbreaking independent cinema from South Asian and its diasporas, and to offer?emerging and established filmmakers numerous industry-facing mentorship, educational and networking opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and cultivate potential donors, including corporate, foundation, and individuals in IFFLA’s community and the areas it serves.
  • Communicate directly with donors by phone/text, email, and in person
  • Liaise with corporations to secure sponsorships
  • Work with the Executive Director, Sponsorship Director and Program staff to draft grant applications, gather application materials and provide timely and accurate reporting
  • Manage an annual calendar of foundation and government grant deadlines
  • Draft and edit written communications, including donor emails and event invitations
  • Participate in the planning and execution of fundraising events
  • Research best practices in development strategies, periodically suggest changes to the Development strategy
  • Attend seasonal Staff meetings (in person and virtually)
  • Other duties as assigned

Reports to the Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in non-profit development field
  • Proven skill as an excellent writer of non-profit communications such as grants, proposals, sponsorship decks and acknowledgment letters
  • Close attention to detail, excellent communication and donor cultivation skills
  • Proactive project manager who works independently and makes continuous systems improvements
  • Experience drafting and monitoring budgets in Excel
  • Experience in the film industry and knowledge of South Asian cinema are highly desired

IFFLA is looking for a highly skilled Executive Director. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director will embrace IFFLA’s mission and integrate it into all festival programs and relationships with audiences, filmmakers, industry and the community at large.? The Executive Director should be highly effective in a leadership role that requires clear communication skills, decisiveness, respect and inspiration to all involved with IFFLA. Candidates need to be located within commuting distance of Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the board directors and committees to fulfill the organization’s mission and shape the organization’s future
  • Develop an actionable fundraising plan and meet annual fundraising goals, in partnership with board of directors, by securing financial support from foundations, corporations, individual donors, and government funding sources
  • Serve as the face of the organization and participate in external events to increase visibility, credibility, and market brand on a national and international level
  • Develop strategic partnerships and build trusted relationships with IFFLA?s sponsors, community and industry partners to ensure consistency of the organization’s credibility, and further increase community and industry awareness
  • Identify and address staffing requirements for efficient operations, and maintain a strong and inclusive work culture that attracts and retains people while driving the organization’s mission
  • Analyze existing internal processes and practices and enhance their effectiveness
  • Oversee daily operations of the organization, providing clear direction for program strategies to ensure high successful programs

Required skills and qualifications

  • A passion for IFFLA’s mission
  • Five or more years of experience in senior management preferable in nonprofit arts organizations, ideally in the field of film
  • Strong and proven experience in fundraising and working with a board of directors
  • Well-versed to South Asian films and the filmmaking community in LA and beyond
  • Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization and can perform under pressure
  • A team player and an excellent communicator able to unify and build support among people at every level (i.e. staff, board, community partners, and sponsors).
  • Experience in building and managing budgets
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills able to convey a focused yet inspiring vision
  • An accessible work style
  • Ability to generate respect and trust
  • Work integrity and transparency

Little Fish Theatre is accepting scripts for its 23rd Annual PICK OF THE VINE short play production to be presented in 2025.?

This season’s theme is “Find Your Way Home”? - After 22 seasons of accepting submissions from playwrights worldwide, Little Fish Theatre is celebrating the creativity and diversity of voices from our own backyard? – in California! ?

California playwrights (residing in CA) are invited to submit (1) original short one-act play exploring the theme of Home?—whatever that means to you. Whether it’s a place, a person, a memory, or a dream, we want to see your unique take on the journey of finding, losing, or redefining “home”. ?

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Only ONE play may be submitted per playwright.? There is no submission fee.
  2. Submissions are open from Oct 10 – 24, 2024.? Submission deadline is October 24, 2024.
  3. Submissions via google form only at:?
  4. Plays must include contact info (name, phone number, email address, home city and state, country) on the cover sheet.? Must have a CA address to submit.
  5. Plays will require no more than 6 actors.
  6. Plays will run no more than 12 minutes, no exceptions.?
  7. Plays will have minimal set, costume, prop, and special effect requirements.
  8. Plays must include a title sheet with Title, Playwright, cast of characters (with brief description), and setting.
  9. Playwright must submit a short response on how your play relates to our theme.?

Timeline:

  1. LFT will notify semi-finalists via email by November 29.? Only those playwrights whose pieces have progressed to the semi-final round will be notified.
  2. Playwrights whose pieces have been chosen for Production in 2025 will be notified via email by the end of December.
  3. There will be a $100 flat royalty payment to each playwright whose play is produced for POV 2025.

Symphonic Jazz Orchestra is seeking a hybrid, part-time Development Director.


Hiring: Development Director

Created in 2002, the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (SJO), based in Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating the genre of symphonic jazz through performing and commissioning new symphonic jazz works, and inspiring the next generations of listeners through its Music in the Schools and Community Outreach programs. The SJO has served over 90,000 students and families across Los Angeles County through in-school residencies and outreach concert activities.


The position is a part-time, hybrid position averaging 12 – 14 hrs. a week. The candidate will lead the organization’s fundraising via foundation and government grant writing, corporate sponsorship, research and development, along with grant reporting. Candidate will be part of a five-person part-time staff led by Music Director Mitch Glickman, attending weekly staff meetings and a limited number of special events and concerts. The SJO’s current budget is $500,000.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee organization’s foundation and government grants to ensure renewals and pursue new funders and opportunities

  • Write, edit, and synchronize timely submission of LOIs and grant proposals, coordinating with the Music Director

  • Initiate and develop corporate sponsorship, pursuing leads and creating sponsorship decks

  • Prepare and update necessary supporting documents for grant applications to include documents such as budgets, letters of support, and other required forms


Qualifications and Skills

  • 4+ years of successful nonprofit grant writing, managing and leveraging foundation relationships and prospect research, plus experience in corporate sponsorship

  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of nonprofit grant writing, outcomes and financial reporting requirements

  • Outstanding grammar and research skills required

  • Ability to work with donors, Board members, and foundations

  • Meticulous eye for detail

My school, ArTES Magnet HS in San Fernando (where the 210 and the 118 meet!) is looking for a Lighting Designer for our Fall Show, a Musical Revue.?

We are a small LAUSD arts school. Our theatre has a lot of new equipment, including many LEDs, movers, and an ION board.?

For now, I am paying $1,000 which is paid 2 weeks after the show closes. ?

The show dates are Nov. 6, 7, and 8 @ 7pm.?

Tech week would be the week before, starting with a LOOONG day on Sat 10/26th. If the designer isn’t able to be there that whole time, that would be ok.?

And then tech Week Mon-Fri (10/28-11/1) from 4-7pm. (We’d prob take off for Halloween if the person wanted to…)

And then another LOOONG Sat on 11/2 (9am-5pm). (Again, negotiable)

Then dress rehearsals Mon and Tues 11/4 and 11/5 4-7pm.?

Any OTHER times the designer wants to be in the theater to hang/focus before or outside of those times is absolutely fine.?

And bonus points if they also like mentoring our Tech Students! These students are trained and available to help with hanging/focusing….including on Saturdays.?

Theatre West is holding auditions for new members! We are a dues-paying membership company, offering a variety of workshops, stage plays, solo shows, playwriting festivals, and more. Unlike traditional theater companies, we are a workshop-based organization that produces content without a fixed season of shows.

We are seeking actors who are serious about joining a membership theater company and want to become part of the LA theater community. Ideal candidates are passionate about honing their craft, self-motivated, and excited to create their own work. Our motto is, "What you put into it is what you will get out of it."

Audition Requirements:

  • Prepare:

    • One memorized monologue (max 2 minutes)
    • One memorized two-person scene (max 2 minutes)
    • Please ensure these pieces are contrasting (comedy/drama) and memorized.
    • Theatre pieces only. No film or TV.
    • A scene partner will be provided, but bring a hard copy of your scene for the reader.
  • Optional:

    • If you sing, prepare one song. No accompanist will be provided.

Call for Muralists | San Pedro Waterfront Arts District

 

The has been granted permission to paint a three-wall mural totaling 624 square feet on the outdoor patio at APM Terminals Pier 400 Los Angeles.?

?

The theme of the proposed mural should include the following elements:

  • The culture of San Pedro and the local community

  • The culture of Los Angeles as a whole, including an LA Street Scene

  • The history of Pier 400 as a container terminal

  • Sustainable green tech marine technology

?

As an applicant you must demonstrate your ability to conceive, execute, and paint a large-scale mural, as well as produce a rendering of the mural you are proposing to paint. Applicant organizations with artists under 18 years old must be supervised by an adult.

?

Your submission and qualifications will be evaluated and scored by the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District Design Advisory Panel, and the wall owners based on the following:

  • Artistic Quality

  • Technical Ability

  • Thematic Expression of the mural themes

  • Proposed mural rendering and color palette

?

Fee Schedule and the Work —?The Arts District shall award the selected muralist $9,000, plus up to $2,000 for supplies and professional services and begin the work on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, to be completed by the end of the month.


SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Please include the following in your submission:

  1. Artist Statement —?a brief description of your work as an artist, your interest, and qualifications for this public art program, as well as your experiences and approach to this project. (Limited to 250 words)

  2. Resume —?a current resume. Artist teams, student organizations, or collaborative groups may submit a combined resume.

  3. References —?name, address, email, and phone number for 3 professional references or someone who can vouch for you.

  4. Concept Sketch —?a quick full color sketch of the proposed design in a PDF format.?

  5. Images —?at least 3 images of past public art projects and/or a website highlighting your work. All image files must be in a PDF format and labeled with your name, contact info, and date.

  6. Contact Information —?your name, address, email, and phone number

This free four-day program helps build the power skills (soft skills) needed to succeed in the workplace. The workshops combine real-life scenarios, videos, interactive activities along with a collaborative and creative final project all geared to strengthen power skills. Participants receive $250 after completing the 4-day program. We also offer transportation assistance, an alumni community and much more.

Participants must currently be enrolled in 11th?or 12th?Grade
Workshop Dates: December 16-20, 10am - 3pm
Location: The Music Center, DTLA
$250 Stipend upon completion
Transportation costs and lunch provided
Application Deadline: November 8
Participants are accepted on rolling-admission and applying early is highly recommended.
