Theatre Commons LA: Independent Artist Field Mapping

 

Theatre Commons LA is launching a ?to better understand and serve theaters makers and artists of all types - actors, directors, designers, writers, stage managers, multi-hyphenates, everyone that identifies as a theatre MAKER! This data will be instrumental in:

  • Identifying gaps in resources and support
  • Creating targeted programs that address needs
  • Fostering stronger connections within our theater community
  • Developing advocacy strategies for the sector
  • Building a stronger foundation for collective action?

Rock Choir coming to Silverlake!

 

Voices Rock California, part of a vibrant network of community choirs that started in Denver in 2014, is excited to announce its inaugural six-week session at the Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles. This session will be led by Grammy-nominated recording artist, arranger, and music director Caleb Collins.?

Starting April 21st, join us each Monday from 7:15 to 8:30 PM for a six-week choir session led by the acclaimed Caleb Collins. Whether you're a seasoned singer or have never sung a note, our non-audition, come-as-you-are choir is the perfect place to discover the joy of singing in a supportive community setting. Calling artists of all kinds! The Road Concerts is looking for site-specific works in unexpected public spaces along the Rim of the World Highway (Crestline to Running Springs) for its eighth road concert, happening the weekend of July 26–27, 2025.

Since its inception, the Road Concerts has featured work from over 300 artists and locals across seven events in Los Angeles. A “road concert” showcases a range of works, including installations, interactive pieces, performances, happenings, roving artworks, car art, readings, music, dance, temporary sculpture, and downloadable art.

Stretching through the San Bernardino National Forest, past tourist attractions, historic landmarks, and suburban neighborhoods, the Rim of the World Highway will become both a stage and a public square—inviting interconnection and dialogue. An official map of the weekend's events, along with project descriptions and other downloadable information, will be available in the weeks leading up to the event.

MARIKEL is a multi-faceted production and consulting company that produces filmed and literary products, place-based activations, festivals, installations and multicultural convenings across Greater Los Angeles.??

LA Carnival on the Shaw is presented in the structure of a Caribbean carnival that includes a carnival/parade and cultural festival, but infused with a mission to help revitalize businesses on Crenshaw, between the Expo/Obama Metro Station and Leimert Park. A major intention of? this project is to collaborate with community partners and work with businesses along the carnival/parade route to create artist-led activations that will revitalize their storefronts and infuse the area with creative energy building up to the LA28 World Games and beyond.

The company is seeking a passionate, self-starter with a forward thinking, strong ‘can do’ approach to project development; and who has demonstrated experience in marketing, sales and sponsorship acquisition. This is a flexible part time position for an individual who can work independently within a team environment. Together, the team will develop an expansive network of multicultural collaborators, partners and contacts that will enable the company to accomplish its stated mission. Active connections within the entertainment, media production, special events and non-profit sectors are highly desired.?

Applications are open for The Music Center's workforce development program, Studio: Creative Futures.

Studio: Creative Futures?is for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in offstage jobs in the entertainment and performing arts industries. This free four-day program helps build the power skills (soft skills) needed to succeed in the workplace. The workshops combine real-life scenarios, videos, interactive activities along with a collaborative and creative final project all geared to strengthen power skills. Participants receive $250 after completing the 4-day program. We also offer transportation assistance, an alumni community and much more.

Artist Opportunity -- City of Palmdale

 

The City of Palmdale is accepting applications for stair murals to be installed at Pelona Vista Park. This exciting art initiative will transform the park’s two staircases leading to the north fields into visual expressions of the project’s themes of health, wellness, sportsmanship and community pride.

With an all-inclusive budget of $10,500, the grant will cover all the necessary expenses, including the artist’s fee, paint supplies and equipment rentals. Included in the budget, the selected artist will receive a $450 stipend to create a color sketch or digital image of the proposed artwork to scale.

Proposals must align with the project’s objectives, ensuring the artwork is family-friendly. The City’s public Art Commission will evaluate and select submissions that best meet the objectives of this project.

Presenter:

?has been writing grants for non-profit arts organizations for nearly 20 years. From 2016 to 2022, she served as the Managing Director of Teatro Visión, San José’s Chicanx/Latinx theater company. During her tenure, she raised more than $1.5 million in government and foundation grants for the organization. As a result, Teatro Visión more than doubled its annual budget, programming, and audiences. She also offers grant writing and other non-profit consulting services to numerous community-focused arts nonprofits throughout the Bay Area and the state of California. Leigh is also a practicing theatrical designer whose work has been seen on stages throughout the Bay Area, Wisconsin, Colorado, New York City, and at the prestigious Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space and a cake artist who has appeared on multiple shows on the Food Network. She holds a BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA in Arts Administration and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Theater Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Leigh currently teaches in the Theatre Arts Department at Foothill College.
