CALL FOR SUBMISSION (Deadline–May 31st) – Art Block Zine; Vol. 9: Good/Evil #drawing #lacounty #lacountyarts #artists #artsandculture

Art Block?is an annual print anthology produced by DSTL Arts and the name of our accompanying? hosted by our Founder, Executive Director, Luis Antonio Pichardo, and our Master Teaching Artist, Abraham Jaramillo. For Art Block Zine; Vol. 9, we're seeking new works of literary and visual art from LA-based writers and artists that reflect on the theme "Good/Evil" (not "Good vs. Evil" or "Good Over Evil", just "Good / Evil").

For?Art Block Zine, our?Editorial Board reviews all submissions for content, theme, and artistic quality. The work our editorial board seeks to publish should activate our five senses while inspiring us with a sense of vulnerability: a sense of realness. We hope to connect with well-developed stories and artwork.

Submissions are accepted ?only and?must?follow our guidelines.

Current Submission period:?
Dec. 4, 2023–May 31, 2024

Publication Release (tentative):?July 15th, annually

Volume 9 (2024) Theme:?Good/Evil
"The pendulum of the mind oscillates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong."?–Carl Jung

For?Art Block Zine; Vol. 9,?we seek visual art, stories, poetry, photography, and comics that demonstrate your interpretation of the concept(s) of?"Good/Evil."

What does "Good/Evil" mean to you? At what point does something "Good" become "Evil", and vice versa? Who decides what "Good" and "Evil" mean anyway, and to what gain?

Since the beginning of time, artists have been charged with the task of artistically rendering society's definition of both "Good" and "Evil" while knowing full well that these concepts of morality are not as clear cut as most people would like them to be. Ultimately, artists know that "Good" and "Evil" are often two sides of the same coin, while paradoxically existing at the same time along a spectrum of moral virtues.

If you need inspiration, feel free to create art in response to the quote noted above.

Submission Guidelines:
Literary Art
?(in .PDF or .DOC format)
Poetry
Flash Fiction and/or Creative Nonfiction (500 words or less)

Visual Art?(in .PNG or .JPG format; 300ppi minimum resolution)
