I run temporary on 120v and get 400w out easy.?

Re: 6 meter output

Before I ran my 240V line, on a pretty heavily used 120 circuit, my whole shack with computers and audio gear on it, I was getting 700 out before it would shut down from the sag (never blew the breaker). It’s worth putting a 240V line in but this amp is impressively efficient with the power draw.?

Re: 6 meter output

Too bad you don't have an electric stove close by to tap into the 220.

I get about 900 out pretty easy with a 1:1 swr on 6 meters and about 45 watts in.

Maximum SWR

I have a multiband yagi that covers 6 thru 40m.? ?On 40m, one of the capacitance spokes on the director fell off, and the SWR on my net frequency went from 1.5:1 to 2.0:1.
The finals in the LA1K are rated at 65:1 SWR, so I am not concerned about the finals, and the amp is working fine with 30W drive and approx 500W out.? The amp is reading 1.9 SWR and the HF-AUTO in bypass is reading 2.12:1.? The HF-Auto always shows a higher SWR.? What is the maximum power the amp will allow at 2:1 SWR before the protection circuit kicks in?? I am not wanting to "try it" to see.? I doubt it would damage the amp, but not going to risk it.
BTW, the reason I am asking and not just using the HF-AUTO is because I am planning on running the antenna directly into the AMP, to free up a slot on the tower mounted 4 position coax switch.

Re: Remoting a LA-1K with Flex 6400

New information from experimentation
If I run the autotuner with the Amp in Bypass mode, I tend to get a better SWR match?
than if I just ran it in OPR mode.? 1.04 vs 1.55.? ?80M

May be my anecdotal exprerience; would like to see what others find.

I use direct PTT keying of the amplifier with TX1 and my normal transmit profile uses TX1 to key it.

My TUNE transmit profile disables TX1 so only the 10W from your Flex goes through.

My HF-Auto works much better using the HF-Auto software that Terry provides and following PC memories instead of tuner memories.

Good point.? I just key mine for a second, and let the HF-AUTO retune to its preset.? I don't even have to go through a full tune cycle here (holding the radio in TX mode) since initially setting up the HF-AUTO.? Was not aware the Amp would come back on from SWR shutdown without rekeying it.

So, question:? Why do they say its a perfect combo with the HF-AUTO, if the two dont talk to each other?? Sounds to me like it is the same as using any auto-tuner then.

Re: Remoting a LA-1K with Flex 6400

Good Afternoon,
??? I have the LA-1K/HF Auto combo.?? Firstly, I would never ask the HF-Auto to tune with the amp in OPR mode.?? If it's in OPR once the SWR gets below 2:1 the amp will automatically kick on (without having to un-key and re-key) and the tuning process will stop since the HF-Auto is programmed not to be tuning when high power is applied (wise choice by Palstar).? I let it tune and when it's finished I engage OPR mode.
? That being said, if you have software that automatically engages the amp when the tuning process is complete it should work fine. (I'm not familiar with Smart SDR)? I just wanted to point out that the amp will automatically come on at low SWR (if it's in OPR mode) and that the tuner will not continue tuning if power is over a certain level (I don't know what that level is, guessing 60 to 100 watts).

Re: Remoting a LA-1K with Flex 6400

If you can't find a replacement I'd ask Laurent F6DEX to sell you a copy with strict understanding support will end in couple years in 2022.? Perhaps he will make an exception for LA-1K owner.
Info2019@trx-manager

Also perhaps Paul at Palstar may have a new Win10 program written for LA-1K if enough folks ask for it.

Re: Remoting a LA-1K with Flex 6400

This may be a dumb comment, but since the amp shuts down if the SWR is high, if you leave it in OPR mode, when you go to tune the HF-AUTO the amp will turn off, the HF-AUTO will tune, then the next keyup with Amp will be in SWR range and transmit without having to switch anything.??

Re: SWR High SSB ONLY - When Using LA-1K Amp

Keep in mine that if you're using a wire antenna that is not solidly secured and susceptible to doing a jig when the wind blows, your SWR is going to be all over the place regardless of how good a tuner you have.? My OCFD is suspended between two trees and can jump around as much as 5-feet from its normal suspension height.? This in spite of having a heavy balun at the feed-point and LMR-400 feed-line.? The wind can really make the antenna dance.? This will clearly impact SWR, and LDMOS amps protect themselves by going into Bypass mode at a much lower SWR than other amps.? At 100 watts, varying SWR is less of a problem (and often not noticeable).

I hope to solve the swaying tree problem in the next week or so with three 50-foot well-guyed masts resting in 4-inch PVC pipes anchored in five-feet of concrete.

We'll see.

interesting to see others having same issues as i am. Just operating in the cqwpx cw contest this weekend and mines doing it randomly on CW. Its a real pain to be baby sitting this amp. I may sell it. I feel like somethings not right with this amp. Im not sure i wanna call Palstar anymore. And i thought i had it Fully corrected With going direct mode, forget normal mode, its worse there. Contesting to me is a true test of performance and this amp seems lacking in quite a few ways. Maybe we can chat further on this, but its definitely troublesome. Even on a dummy load.?

Terminate the amp-tuner into a known good load and see if the condition exists.? If it does, then I'd call Palstar and see what they can suggest.? If it goes away, then I recommend a closer inspection of the antenna system.?

Keith, have you resolved your issue? Its been awhile And would like to hear how it went? I have same issue is why.
