Re: SWR High SSB ONLY - When Using LA-1K Amp

Sent: Sunday, December 8, 2019 6:49 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [la1k] SWR High SSB ONLY - When Using LA-1K Amp ? All: Please note this (trimmed) frame from the video just as the amp is tripping. If you simply play the video you might not be able to see this but if you step through you'll see that the frame is there. This would normally cause one to suspect that something after the amplifier is intermittent, but I suppose it could be an amp issue of some sort. Another less likely possibility is that there is a burst of off-frequency signal being fed to the amp or caused by the amp that is resulting in an actual high SWR. In any case, the amp is tripping because it really does seem to think there's an SWR problem. Note that these kinds of problems can be power dependent and not show up at lower power. My suggestion is to start with a different cable from the amp and run that direct to a known good dummy load to see if there's an issue that way. I suspect it will be fine. If not, try another radio to drive the amp and as a last resort call Palstar. Chuck - N8DNX ? |

Yup, what's happening here is exactly what I posted back in May 2019.? No answers.? The best I got is I might have RF in the shack.? Funny, never been an issue before, and ONLY an issue on SSB.? SWR High SSB ONLY - When Using LA-1K Amp
SWR normal on cw and digital modes. As soon as I go to SSB and begin speaking amp goes into bypass mode. ?HF-Auto tuner says 1.2 SWR. If I put amp in bypass mode and turn radio to 100 watts all is ok on SSB. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I don't have a external sir meter.

Re: SWR Reset ?
My amp did fail several months ago. Support from telephone to service and finally extremely fast shipping back was excellent. I waited to write this to enable a valid comment. Yes one LDMOS was replaced. Mark at Palstar was confident I would be pleased and explained everything to keep the amplifier stable. I’m so happy I bought a Palstar product. I can’t say enough about their support.
update: Five months and all is well . I now auto tune then manual tune for 1:0 on amplifier. The antenna swr is a bit higher but the amplifier likes a 1:0 the swr on the antenna usually reads 1:1 |
Re: SWR Reset ?
Hi Paul?
no im not using an arrestor? i have 3 different antennas connected to the hf auto? 10m 5/8 9 element log periodic 7 to 30meg my antenna endfed all band all antennas even when resonant? show bad swr on the la1k even after the hf tuner is 1.4 the amp will be ?2 to 2.5 has always been this way i have always done the firmware updates as soon as they come out i live 2 thousand + km from my station? which I only visit a few times a year so you can see that this problem is frustrating when I cannot reset the amp cheers Darren |
