I've had my LA-1K for 22 months.? I run it at 240 volts.? The very first time I put the amp into transmit, it showed 940 watts out with 35 watts drive. I was elated.? One minute later, I did another transmit with the linear, and it showed approximately 400 watts out.? I tried for a full day to get the unit to start working at full power again, but with no success. After contacting Palstar and listening to them argue with me that it was my fault, I was allowed to send it in for repairs.? Fifteen days later, I was contacted by Palstar that a Q-2 chip was replaced, which is one of the finals.? The Palstar owner told me I had over driven the unit, and it was my fault. He said there would be no charge for repairs, but I had to pay return shipping. I had no choice but to do what he wanted because he had my amp, and I wanted it back.?

My experience with the owner made me angry. I did not over drive the unit, nor did I transmit into high SWR, or any of the things he accused me of doing.? What happened was obvious. The amp had a bad chip that died within minutes of my first use. I thought that's what having a warranty meant -- to protect a new buyer from a product malfunction or defect. I shipped it back to them at my expense, and I had to pay for return shipping, which I don't think was my responsibility.

Since that time, it has performed flawlessly.? It is well built and robust.? I have had zero problems since it was repaired and returned.

I will also add that I purchased the HF-Auto two months after acquiring the LA-1K. I love this tuner, and would highly recommend it.

Please note, this is not intended to bash anybody or any product. It's simply what happened to me with my LA-1K.? Obviously, I'm happy with Palstar, or I would not have purchased the HF-Auto afterwards. In my opinion, if you're in the market for a solid state HF amplifier, then look no further.
