Export Kicad Libraries while kicad isnt working 4
Hello everyone, I have been using Kicad 6 on Win10 laptop for months now and our antivirus software (Trellix Endpoint Security) at the company reported this data as a trojan C:\Program Files\KiCad\6.0\bin\brotlicommon.dll". Now the file has been deleted and I cant use any of Kicads subprograms/applications (schematic editor, symbol editor, pcb editor, etc.) anymore. This means that I cant manage any library. Also whenever I try to open an application Kicad presents me 3 different error messages. I tried copying the deleted data from a different laptop with the same kicad version, but the antivirus software immediately deletes it after copying into my laptop. I was hoping if I could still export all of my libraries from Kicad 6 and import them into Kicad 7. Moreover Kicad 7 is working normally and our antivirus software didnt discover any malicious data. Here are pictures regarding the error messages that I get while opening any Kicad subprogram/applications. First Second Third Kicad Version I appreciate any help or suggestion to fix this dilemma. Best regards, Lorenzo

KiCad 7.0.5 AC Simulation question 6
I'm having trouble getting an AC simulation to work in 7.0.5. Could be I am just not doing something right but 'the obvious' things don't work - nor does 'doing something similar to what I do in LTSpice' work. I can set up a Transient simulation just fine. However attempting to set up and run an AC simulation doesn't seem to want to let me add signals, and it just pops up an error message telling me to 'run the simulation first'. If I run the simulation again, it just gives me another Transient simulation! Any idea what I am doing wrong, or should I be filing a bug report?

Drawing Sheet SVG Import 4
Hello All, I would like to know if anyone has an idea on how to import a vector graphics file (specifically svg in this case) into the drawing sheet editor? Or otherwise place an svg on a drawing sheet? There is an Add Bitmap feature, but that does not support svg (I have already used this with a png version of the image, but I am unhappy with the result). Likewise, the Image Converter does not support svg either. There is an Import Vector Graphics File in the Footprint Editor and that seems to work well. I can always place a footprint on the title block containing the image but I would rather not. Am I missing something obvious? Or is this not currently implemented? I am using KiCad version 7.99.0.1401, if it is relevant. Any suggestions would be appreciated. - Augustine

Very first experiments with the ngspice Simulator 3
I have just spent a few hours playing around with the ngspice Simulator in KiCad 7. I am already a fan. Some very initial impressions... Positive The UI, starting from the same schematic entry tool as KiCad uses, is a winner. There is no comparison at all with LTSpice's UI, which is frankly awful. Fairly short learning curve if you come (as I do) from an LTSpice background Much easier process to integrate third-party models (again, in comparison to LTSpice). I had some potentially show-stopping questions that I was able to resolve by experimenting with the UI and finding how it worked SPICE_LIB_DIR - thank goodness for this Was able to import models from Texas Instruments, Infineon, ONSEMI... and have them actually work in simulations without a fight. Winner. Simulation UI is pretty simple and straightforward for this stage of development. And it does work! Things generally 'do what you expect' - a plus. 'Workbook' concept is nice 'Tune' tool, using a slider to manipulate a simulation component's value, is an absolute winner. What a great tool. Lots and lots of potential here. I went in cold, but will be using this a lot more. Great work KiCad team! Negative A few niggles with the UI; some small fonts that cannot be read easily Wishes So many, but I fully understand this tool is a work-in-progress (and as I said, great work so far) Would like the ability to place Operating Point labels on the schematic (LTSpice .op directive) Rename/label 'signals'? Cursors, measurement tools etc. Again, a huge amount of potential, great tool, I am a fan thanks just to a short time experimenting.

Spice Simulator plot window font (KiCad 7.0.5)
I'm trying out the SPICE/ngspice simulator in 7.0.5 (Release). The font size used on the axis labels is tiny - unreadable on a 3840 x 2160 display. Is there any way for the user to change it? I don't see anything in any preferences but maybe I missed it.

Net-connection/highlighting issues for nets from different buses giving ERC errors 3 #erc #debug #bus #connection_name
Hi I have made a schematic with multiple cascaded hierarchical sheets. For ease of navigation and convenience, I have used buses throughout the schematic to make wire connections and to bring out as hierarchical ports. The problem is that when I unfold from these buses and connect them with another using labels, the following error occurs: This in-turn results in net-connection issues like shown : It can be noticed that the labels "MISO_CTRL" and "MOSI_CTRL" are not highlighted. I have realised this error is because they have a different connection (refer images attached below) where the connection name for the highlighted label is /connectors/MISO_CTRL, which is different compared to the net it is attached to which has the connection name /connectors/PortA_1 This problem goes deeper, where a legitimate connection is not established due to the mismatch of the net coming from another hierarchical sheet. Here, a connection between PortA_1 and SSPI_MISO are not established. Moreover, anytime I try to highlight the MISO_CTRL labels and attached nets, the highlight functionality does not work and only the label is highlighted. This causes issues while tracing the nets in the schematic. I would be grateful if someone could suggest a way out of this issue, or how I can get control over the "connection-name" property of the nets and labels. Thank you

Automatic disposition of thermal vias 19
Hi, I'm Alessandro, new member of the group. I come from Italy, and to write this message I was helped by the automatic Google translator. I have been using KiCad for some years both for personal purposes and for work. I have a question: I'm finishing making a medium-sized pcb, in the shape of a circular crown of about 30cm in diameter, for a led lamp. The problem is to arrange the thermal connection vias (about 1000) between the two layers of copper (top and bottom). I created a circular array of vias (arranged on three circumferences), but I had to edit (almost) individually the parameters (in particular the connection NET). Is there a faster (automatic) way to create arrays of vias in cases like this? And possibly there is also a way to create circular shaped copper zones? At the moment I have solved it by inserting circumferences in the "margin layer", keepout zones and using different priorities for the various copper zones (a job that took me several hours). I hope there are more efficient methods than the one I've used, especially since I may have to do similar jobs in the future... and I don't want to go crazy like this time. Is there anyone who can give me advice please? Thanks in advance with hope, in turn, that i can be of help to someone. Alessandro

Kicad 6 2
I am still using Kicad 3, I build many small pcb¡¯s that are small (less than 1 square inch) that have no components just two holes. I panelize them the hard way, by placing each on the grid, since I either cut them out by punching or have the shop rout to the OD line around each part. I don¡¯t want to use V score or break apart since I need a vary clean edge. Is there a spell and repeat command in a newer version of Kicad? I used to work in a pcb shop in the 1970¡¯s and did panelization on a light table and grid! Thanks, Greg On May 21, 2023, at 5:06 AM, John Woodgate <jmw@...> wrote: ? I found out how to do it. schematic program crashes every time on new win 10 install of 7.02. PCB is ok. 2
As in topic, I did a fresh install of 7.02 on a win10 fresh install. I can import my old board designs fine. Schematic crashes every time. CPU load goes way high, need to kill with task manager, red "X" doesn't work, get a "not responding", the "wait" circle stays on screen. Anyone have any idea what I need to look for that is making kicad unhappy? GeorgeC

Updating KiCad 7.0.0 to KiCad 7.0.2 2
I've used KiCad before, but it was a few years ago and I never got that familiar with it. I have a new project, so I'm looking for a fresh start. I thought I should update to the latest revision, which seems to be 7.0.2, running under Windows 10. I guess I'm used to software that knows how to check the rev number and update itself. But it appears KiCad doesn't do this? Or am I simply not finding the button to tell it to check for updates? So I need to download the 7.0.2 revision and install it over 7.0.0? Also, my vision has taken a turn for the worse since I last used the tool. Like many Windows programs, they aren't very good at letting you specify the size of various text. I don't expect the schematic or layout to be a problem because you can zoom in on what you want to see. But the text in dialog boxes and menus is very hard for me to read. I don't see any settings to help with this. Any suggestions? I've already zoomed using the Windows controls as much as practical. I'd prefer not to have to muck with that further. -- Rick Collins - Get 1,000 miles of free Supercharging - Tesla referral code - https://ts.la/richard11209

Announcing a change to Fedora Copr repositories
The following pertains to KiCad availability on Fedora Linux. Please note that none of what follows affects the official builds hosted by Fedora in any way. Everything below pertains only to the Copr repositories hosted by the KiCad team itself. Previously, there was only one Copr repository for KiCad [1]. It contained both nightly builds of the development branch of KiCad and released builds of the stable branch of KiCad. That arrangement turned out to be too limiting, because one might want to enable the repo to get nightly development builds, but might not want to get released builds from it. Additionally, the team wanted to make testing builds of the stable branch available, and adding a third thing to the repository would compound the problem. Thus, the stable builds have been split off into a separate repository [2]. *IMPORTANT:* If you were previously getting your stable builds from [1], you *must* switch to [2], because no further stable builds will be added to [1]. To enable the new repository, simply issue the following command: dnf copr enable @kicad/kicad-stable The new testing builds of the stable branch are available in [3] and can be enabled by the following command: dnf copr enable @kicad/kicad-testing A few things to be aware of: The builds in [2] and [3] share a namespace. If both repositories are enabled at the same time, they will effectively be combined; the build you get will always be the newest one available in either of the two repositories. In other words, if you enable both [2] and [3], a newer stable build will replace an older testing build, and a newer testing build will replace an older stable build. The nightly development builds in [1] are completely independent of [2] and [3]. They live in a separate namespace, meaning that you can have both a nightly development build and a stable (or testing) build installed at the same time. Updating symbols merges power/ground nets 6
I have a design which is essentially two separate circuits (a motherboard and daughter card) with two 3.3V rails (+3V3 and +3.3VP) and two separate grounds (GND and GND1). They do, however, use two instances of an ATMEGA808. The ATMEGA has Vdd and Vss power pints. When I update the symbol of the ATMEGA808 The schematic editor will alternately merge +3V3 and +3.3VP or GND and GND1. I do not know if this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks

Netclass directives in hierarchical design failing to resolve. 2
Hi, I have a design I'm working on that has a couple high voltage traces. I wanted to denote this graphically with a net class directive. What I've found, though, is that the resolved netclass for this trace is Default, regardless of whether I place the directive on the super- or sub-page. The only way I've gotten it to resolve correctly is when I place the directive on every sheet where the signal appears, which I'm not a fan of. Is this the only way to make it work? The ERC should also probably catch this error, which it currently isn't. While I don't know what's happening under the hood, it seems like it should be treated similarly to a conflicting netclass assignment. ERC catches this error: ERC fails to catch this error. Note that both cases resolved to Default: Removing the hierarchical connector makes it resolve as expected. For these three examples, the sheet pin was present one sheet up, but the signal was left unconnected without a netclass assigned at this level. - Jason -- Jason Bens Product Design & Engineering Voxdale GmbH | c/o Motionlab ML, Bouch¨¦strasse 12, halle 20 12435, Berlin | t: +49 160 273 86 34 HRB 239206 B, Amtsgericht Charlottenburg(Berlin), Gesch?ftsf¨¹hrer: Gerard Sanders und Tim Dieryckx.
