Thanks, Steve. I think I did what you advise, but it didn't work, so I probably didn't. I am using version 6.0.11, with the .kicad_xxx extensions, but I forgot to put them in my original post.

I would create the Figure3 project using KiCad, which will create a Figure3.sch file.? Then, close KiCad, copy your edited file in place of the one KiCad created, and start KiCad again.

Be sure to check that you edited the schematic to put Figure3 in place of the older schematic name.

By the way, KiCad is now using a .kicad_sch, .kicad_pro, .kicad_pcb, etc. file extension.? What version are you using?

I have to make two schematics that are the same except for component values. I have made one, in Figure2.pro, called Figure2.sch. I want to copy it to a new Figure3.pro. I tried making a copy of Figure2.sch, changing its filename to Figure3.sch and adding it to the Figure3.pro folder, but it not 'seen' by the .pro. Is there a way to do what I want?
