Latest testing session
5
Hello Everyone, We do ham radio testing quarterly here in KlamTucky. Occasionally, a testing session really stands out. Like the time a YL drove over from Medford and took the test and went from Zero to Extra in one session. Well, I have another one. This past Saturday, an eleven-year-old boy came over from Ashland and took his Tech test and passed it. Way COOL! His License was issued today, KK7ZSK. 73, Jim WO7V

Hope everyone has a wonderful week! I'll probably not be back home in time for the net tonight; please check me in as a guest for the ARES net. 73, Erik KD6RRR

Additional settings for mobile install question

I am getting ready to install a Kenwood TM-D710G in my truck. I have all the repeaters programed for Klamath and surrounding areas and I have APRS enabled and tested. What other channels should I program for quick access or settings I should look at based on your experiences? Thanks in advanced. -- Mike Pearson KJ7VXX

Nail guns with nails https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1172647587766928/ Misc. airtools, gages, filters, and fittings https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/488072697501860/ I am also giving away a half+ 1,000' box of CAT 5 network cable and a spool of 2 conductor telco crossconnect wire. Party Tent Available
3
All, Party Time is shutting down. They are selling off some of their party supplies. This includes some of their heavy vinyl party tents. They have a Eureka brand 20x40 tent available for $700. Sides are $20 each and 6 would be needed to fully enclose it. Total for the complete kit is $820. They also have a 20x20 tent they are asking about $1000 (it might have been $1200) for. The reason they say this is more than the larger one is it's a newer tent that hasn't has as much recovered. We don't do a lot of events, so I see this as more of a Field Day thing. Would it be worth it compared to the smaller 10x10 pop-up tents we've been using? Here is a link showing what it takes to setup. https://youtu.be/yMmiYG4JDgY Jeff at Party Time said two people can put this tent up in about an hour. I've attached a couple pictures. Here is a link as well. These show examples of a tent setup as a canopy only and with panels. https://photos.app.goo.gl/8eLThXDd3cVHYsxC7 My question for the club would be is this something we would like to pursue? One of my bigger concerns is the anchors. It looks like they need to be quite substantial. Putting them in and taking them out would be a bit of work. I don't think there would be any issues setting up at the Fairgrounds. Setup and takedown may take a bit more overall. I've never set one of these up so if anyone has input, please speak up. If this is something we would like to pursue, we would ask for donations from members to make the purchase. At this time, we have just over $250 or so in donations offered. Thanks, Charlie / K7AKT

APRS to SMS to APRS help
4
Good morning fellow KF hams. I am hoping someone may have some experience or insight into the APRS to SMS text messaging system. I am using the Yeasu FT3D to send APRS to SMS. Which works great for me. But when I send a reply SMS back, I never receive the APRS message on my radio. I am following the instructions to the letter, but with no success. I think this would be a great system to use when communicating with non-hams, especially when out of cell signal range. Apparently there was a similar system for APRS to SMS that was shut down a little over a year ago. And a new system was put in place 11 months ago. I mention this because the procedures have changed slightly and the old instructions don't work for this new system. I have put a link below to the current "APRS to SMS" website for your reference. https://aprs.wiki/ Thanks, 73 Aaron KK7VHW
