Locked Sticky ADMIN: >>HOW TO ASK YOUR QUESTION<< - A general reminder for everyone #admin
====================== HOW to ask your question ====================== One of the most common questions about JMRI is "How do I get it to work?". This isn't really a problem with JMRI itself in most cases, but there are HUGE numbers of possible configurations for DCC systems, and Windows, Linux, and Mac computers out there. Just asking "How do I get it to work" is NOT going to get you any useful help. When asking ANY question, you should >>>utilize a meaningful subject line<<< that indicates the problem and include the following information in the body of the message: + If JMRI has started copy and paste the System Console into the body. (its under help on the start screen) + Has JMRI worked before on this computer? + JMRI version + Previous version if you just upgraded + Java version + Previous version if you just upgraded + Computer make and model + if you have just upgraded, from which version + Any other DCC devices in use + Specific details of your difficulty including error messages if any, or what you would like to do with JMRI. Decoder Programming, Signals, Automation, etc. Depending on the nature of the problem, you may need to supply even more information, but this is the absolute required for anyone to give you accurate answers. Signing you post helps keep the group friendly and personable! Your moderators and trouble shooters.

Please use "meaningful subject lines" when starting topics. We are getting lots of subject lines that don't give much if any idea of what the topic is about. By providing a meaningful subject line you may get the attention of someone that can provide you assistance with your issue. We would like to point out that this list is for discussions related to JMRI, and is intended to be a place that people, particularly beginners, can turn to for help with their JMRI problems from more experienced JMRI users. General DCC and model railroading topics should be taken to a more appropriate forum and NOT be posted here. SPAM of any kind, politics, legal issues, and other off-topic matters should NOT be posted to the list and will be subject to deletion by the moderators, as will any responses to such off-topic matters. New members still on moderated status will find that off-topic posts will not be approved for posting, and old members making such posts may find themselves back on moderated status. LogixNG table editor and CSV question 5
Following this JMRI tutorial I try to make up and import as a LogixNG table this Excell .csv file. Simply 8 sensors (C2S0B1 ... C2S0B8) and three lamps (C2L0B001 .. C2L0B003). Excel view: And LogxNG view of the imported csv file: What is wrong with my import? I cannot seem to use it anywhere as described in the JMRI tutorial (https://www.jmri.org/help/en/package/jmri/jmrit/logixng/LogixNGTableTableEditor.shtml)... ? Wrong csv table? Wrong way of importing? The csv file as used is attached below. Thanks for any help or pointers! Erik

Studying LogixNG first steps- Yard Ladder example not working.
Example from here. I guess there is some assumed/unmentioned hoop through which this newbie has not jumped :) Downloaded and unpacked the example zip. Opened the contained XML with Panel Pro > load all panels and table. Can see the panel, click a track sensor, sensor changes but no points. Had a look in sensor, turnout and logixNG tables which look something like this novice might expect. Then I tried the logixNG tables table(!) and spotted the described Yard Ladder sensor/turnout table was missing. Loaded the table from the zip-contained CSV. No change - sensors still change on clicking but the points do not follow. What am I missing, please?

JMRI/Raspberry Pi Touchscreen panels - layout expansion questions 2
Good Afternoon, I currently have a layout running with the following set up: NCE Power Cab Raspberry Pi running JMRI using M Steve Todd's file This is connected to the layout via an NCE USB Adapter The Raspberry Pi runs a touchscreen which I have set up as a control panel and operate turnouts from this - the panel itself effectively is fullscreen on the Raspberry Pi touchscreen. I'm looking at expanding the layout, and realistically it would need a second control panel for the extension - I don't really want to redraw the existing panel and reduce the size of the panel itself as it's currently very user friendly. From reading the various JMRI documents, I'm not entirely sure how to go about this - it is clear that I can only have one Raspberry Pi unit connected in via an NCE USB adapter , but am I correct in saying that if I network a second Pi to the main one, either via the built in wifi or an ethernet cable, this is feasible? From my limited understanding, you can load up two separate panel windows and switch between them ,so am I correct that if this is the case, the original Pi panel can effectively stay as is, with the new Pi Panel running as a networked unit and showing just the additional panel? thanks in advance

Ad Hoc Changing Block Alternate Colour - Means of Showing Cab Allocation with DC Cab Control 7
My layout is DC cab control, servo points, neither occupation sensors nor signals. Windows JMRI + MERG CBUS. Panel editor panel. NX routing to set and show points, routes and block cab allocation. Early days, layout under construction, JMRI being understood. On a simple simulated test panel I've been able to set and show points, routes and allocated blocks with NX. I would like also to use this process to allocate and show the (one of five) route control cab. It looks like LogixNG (user level currently novice!) might do this. I might click a one-of-five cab select sensor button group before setting an NX route. This selection is then available during the NX setting process. Is there a way to vary the block alternate colour used to indicate an allocated block during this process, please? It's nagging at me that I've seen a forum query on exactly this subject but despite quite deep digging and repeated searching I can't find it (or indeed anything). I suspect there is a rune to cast that will unlock my current very limited understanding!

Coding with Packet Analyzer 11
Anyone up for a job? How much would you charge to make me code? To parse the data coming from the packet analyzer and update the locomotive roster with new running time. Maybe make some stats out of the data coming back....

Trying to replicate 3-way LogixNG code 6 #logixng
Dave Sand, I saw a copy of your 3way LogixNG.xml code (May 6th) which looked interesting (anyway, I assume it¡¯s yours). It operates much smoother than the Sensor/Route/Turnout conglomeration I developed to do the same thing. Up until now, I have been avoiding any Logix or LogixNG coding, at my age, I really didn¡¯t want to learn another programming language. Since the code operated the 3-way turnouts just the way I liked. My plan was to add it to my layout.xml with a modification adding of two extra tracks/turnouts. I tried merging the two xml files (but it created two separate panels), not ideal. I also tried the proper way, creating the code from scratch, but (for me) LogixNG is a steep learning curve. I don¡¯t understand the methodology of how to program by completing the dialog boxes. I got as far as the lines completing the (if-) then-else statements which I couldn¡¯t get it to look like your code, I became so frustrated, the project got put on the back burner. Is there an editor to directly type-in the code, leaving the debugger to point out syntax errors? I would like an easier way to replicate your code. Thank you in advance for your expertise. Startup Gets Stuck 23 #startup
Recently it became necessary to reinstall Java and JMRI. First, I checked that both programs were uninstalled. I then installed Java Version 8 Update 441 and JMRI Version 4.26+R381. Both were problem free installs. I then tried to start JMRI so I could load my roster. The Java icon and the DecoderPro icon appeared in the taskbar and the small JMRI splash screen appeared in the middle of my screen. That's as far as the startup got. I've listed my equipment below. What am I missing? I'd appreciate any help in getting started. -- Richard Richter Dell Lattude 3190 2-in-1 Laptop Computer Microsoft Windows 11 Pro RR-CirKits LocoBuffer-NG Rev-a Digitrax ZephyrXtra DCS 51 Command Station

JMRI requiring restart when C/MRI connection temporarily lost? 4 #cmri
Using C/MRI IO boards (with RS485 bus) I find that if the RS485 bus -even momentarily- loses connection then I have to restart Panel Pro. Is that correct? Or is there a way to get JMRI to reset its C/MRI connection (RS485 bus) so that Panel Pro does not have to be completely restarted?

Help with a Script to send SigOps CV settings for NCE Lightit 3 #nce #scripting
Hi all, I use NCE LightIt decoders for signal heads and then have signal masts setup using the signal heads. I have about 90 signal heads on the layout (90 NCE LightIts). I have been doing some searching, and attempting using ChatGPT, to configure the CV for the lights. In particular I want to set the values of CVs 140, 141 and 142 for each of the lights to change the brightness. On my NCE system, I can do this by entering Sig Ops Programming on the Main (Esc+0) and I can enter the signal address, CV number and Value. This however is tedious for 90+ lights and I figured this would be a good way to start to understand Scripting in JMRI. But I am struggling to get access to the right programmer in the script. Any JMRI script experts out there who might be able to show me the best way to get a programmer object that works as SigOps on the main and then to write a CV value to a given address? Thanks Trevor

Locked Xnet Message queue not being send to layout 16 #lenz #xpressnet
Hi there, I am experiencing an issue with JMRI, I am using the latest 5.10 production release. I experienced similar issue with the previous version. I am using a Lenz LVZ100 command station with a serial interface on a raspberry pi. Everything works as expected, but after a while, the queue for a DCC address stops being treated. I mainly run my trains through custom jython scripts. The only workaround I found is to restart JMRI. When this happens any JMRI tool is useless for a specific address (withrottle, jmri throttle, web throttle...), but that address can still be controlled with handheld command outside JMRI. I enabled trace log level and here is what I get. In this example address 2 is stuck while address 9 works fine at the same time. DCC-EX Voltage/current meter 9 #dcc-ex
I have my windows 10 laptop running JMRI v5.6 with DCC-EX running on an Arduino uno, connected to my laptop via USB, paired with the DCC-EX MotorShield8874. When I open the ¡®voltage / current meter¡¯ in Panel Pro, all I get is hyphens - no actual current reading in digits. I¡¯ve had the current meter working before, on an older version of JMRI, running a standard motor shield with the Arduino, but I¡¯ve not tested the current meter since I fitted the new 8874 motor shield. I wanted to check there isn¡¯t anything I¡¯ve missed or failed to configure specifically in JMRI for this before looking into the hardware. Many thanks, Dan

LogixNG POM 7 #logixng
I am using the POM function in LogixNG. Currently setting a CV = to an IM value. Works good. Now I'd like to ADD an IM value to the CV. In the snip I started out trying to just add a constant (50) but that didn't work. I think I need to use the Formula tab but not sure of the syntax. -- Many thanks in advance!
