This isn't really a problem with JMRI itself in most cases, but there are HUGE numbers of possible configurations for DCC systems, and Windows, Linux, and Mac computers out there. Just asking "How do I get it to work" is NOT going to get you any useful help. When asking ANY question, you should >>>utilize a meaningful subject line<<< that indicates the problem and include the following information in the body of the message: + If JMRI has started copy and paste the System Console into the body. (its under help on the start screen) + Has JMRI worked before on this computer? + JMRI version + Previous version if you just upgraded + Java version + Previous version if you just upgraded + Computer make and model + if you have just upgraded, from which version + Any other DCC devices in use + Specific details of your difficulty including error messages if any, or what you would like to do with JMRI. Decoder Programming, Signals, Automation, etc. Depending on the nature of the problem, you may need to supply even more information, but this is the absolute required for anyone to give you accurate answers. can anyone tell me how the speed of a train traveling in automation is determined as it entered each section when using sml virtual signals on a layout panel. there is the speed set in block tables, there is the speed definitions and their speeds and there is the max speed set when creating a train. what is their relationship to each other. in preference /warrents page what is %script mean, what is %throttle mean? tony

Hi: I'm currently running JMRI Version 5.4 on a Windows 10 PC. I keep getting the upgrade prompts and keep avoiding it. If I upgrade to Win 11, are there any risks? I'm using an NCE Power Pro system, connected via the serial port through a Trip-Lite Keyspan USB serial adapter (other adapters did not work). I'm most concerned that the adapter driver will not transfer to Win 11, and then I'm screwed. (I cannot find a Win 11 driver online). Also, will everything else with the JMRI software work once I upgrade to Win 11? Or will I need to uninstall and reinstall JMRI? Lastly, what are the security risks if I just stay with Win 10? If I don't browse the web, am I safe? Or is simply being connected to the internet create a risk? Thank you, Perry

I have three BXP88 as occupancy detectors. Their correct sensor numbers show up in my sensor table as they should but there are additional sensors in the table which I have no idea what they are. When I delete them they reappear when I restart. How do I identify them and get rid of them please

I have several passenger trains that perform switching at a station along the route. These passenger trains have a mix of coaches, sleepers, diners, baggage, express reefers and express box cars. To help my crews assemble these cars in the correct order when adding and removing cars, I've added the blocking order to the care type. I thought this would be available to print on manifests and switchlists so the crew would see them and get the cars in the correct order, but I don't see the option to add them to the manifest/switchlist. Is there a way to add this to the either? I'm not sure what purpose this field serves if it's not printed so that crews can take action. Thanks Dennis Coglianese

in jmri 5.10 when creating a train at the bottom of the window is train length. After entering the data for a train and saving the data upon opening that data the train length has gone back to a default value. is that deliberate or a mistake? When you open a speedometer and enter data and save it , then open 4 speedometers , all have the same data. whats the possibility of saving multiple speedometers ,each with different data, like one saves throttles. tony

Hi, When I use the dispatcher, it sometimes happens that when I terminate a train, the locomotive is no longer available in the list to start a new transit. I have to restart JRMI to make the locomotive available again. HI: A few days ago I asked a question about upgrading to Win 11, but I have some reservations about doing so due to risks of hardware compatibility. So I had a thought about a way to keep Win10 without sacrificing security, but I don't know if it will work. I use cell phones as throttles, so of course I need to be connected to WiFi . If I were to get another WiFi router and set up a second SSID that is local only (not connected to the internet), and connect the cell phones to that WiFi router, will this work for the cell phone throttles? This would allow me to keep my Win 10 machine disconnected to the internet, eliminating ant security threats. Thanks, Perry

Hi everyone. Forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place. I belong to a railroad club which uses JMRI and Digitrax DCC. I am also a novice user and trying to gain more knowledge. My goal is to put JMRI on my home laptop and run the practice (not sure of the name) file so I learn how to use the system. I have Win 10, MSI GS75 Stealth 95E (few years old), have downloaded and installed Java 11, 64 bit. I have an extensive background in computer sciences BSCS, MSCS, and 20 years electronics experience so I'm not totally lost. With that said, JMRI looks intimidating at best. (lol) If someone would help mentor me to getting this installed so I can learn what to do and how to do it I would be greatly thankful. Regards, Jim

I have an industry that holds 24 tank cars and I want to keep it full during each ops session. I have my planned pick ups on the spur set at 100%, moves along that route set to 48 with random off. I wont be able to swap 24 cars during each session due to max length of train but I would ideally like to roughly pick up 10 and set out another 10 which I have plenty in my yard that are empty. No road restrictions either. What happens on my build is it will have me set out 6 but pick up 12 and it never has me fill that industry again and it stays around 50% full. Am I missing something simple? Thanks, Jason

Greetings! Does anyone know if there are decoders on the market that can be programmed by the user to show non-standard aspects? I am about to build a non-american model railway where there are ready-made decoders for most but not all signals, and I would like to use off the shelf products wehenever possible. All feedback is welcome.

I am new to JMRI and I connected up JMRI to my HO Layout. I use Digitrax DS52 , PR4 & DS74s(9) to control my 34 Atlas Turnouts. All turnouts were working fine when controlling them from the DS52 command center, or the DT602 remote control and about one half have the DSXCP1 switch control panels. On JMRI I was able set up my connection, I was able to program my Locomotive Roster OK and program them on a program track. When I started updating my turnout table I was checking the use of controlling the turnouts from JMRI. That's when things got a little crazy. when I opened and closed switches they would usually work OK but at times switches would randomly click open and closed and some times I would have to press them twice to get a response. Other times I would also hear multiple clicks on different turnouts. After a while my PR4 went dead and all of my DS74s froze in the OPS mode (ID&OPS LEDs alternate blinking). I tried everything to reset the DS74s but they were totally unresponsive. I have sent the PR4 and DS74s back to Digitrax for repair. Can anyone give me some ideas on what went wrong. It seems to me that somehow the voltage was too high and burnt out the PR4 or something was out of sync or in conflict with the communications on the the LocoNet.

Hi, I know this isn't a Java group, but every time I go to open JMRI I get a Java exception has occurred. As info I uninstalled Java and reinstalled it. I also uninstalled and reinstalled JMRI. Any suggestions? Thank you, Jim Pflieger
