Transfer all JMRI environment on pc to Steve Todd¡¯s rpi image #rpi #nce #windows

Hi all,
? ?I have been trying to develop my RR in JMRI. I am a slow learner, (age related) so this might be a dumb question, but here I go. I would like to develope all the necessary items like panel pro, dispatcher and automation on my windows 11 laptop for comfort and convenience. I run my RR using Steve Todd¡¯s raspi image on a pi4 with Engine Driver. Once I get the pc JMRI the way I like, can this be transferred to Steve¡¯s image to run my railroad?
?
Thanks
Steve M

You may find it just as easy to use a remote desktop connection to the Pi4 and do the JMRI configuration once. I have a Pi4 connected to a Digitrax controller. The Pi4 has VNC server enabled and I use RealVNC viewer to access the Pi4. I do not use Steve's Pi image but loaded the RPI OS, added Java then the JMRI. If you use Steve's image you should connect the Pi4 to your home WIFI. I believe Steve has instructions on how to do this. I can connect to my Pi4 with a Mac, Windows PC's, Android tablet and Linux (even another Pi4).

I¡¯d second this approach. It means you can use your main PCs screen, keyboard and mouse as if you were physically working on your Pi

The only downside is that your Pi needs to be powered on

Alternatively (and this is probably not for average users), you could set up your JMRI user files on a shared drive somewhere (DropBox or similar). Then you work on your PC in simulator mode and your Pi will see everything you do. Just don¡¯t start both JMRIs at the same time

I work on a lot of layouts and just move the panel file back and forth as needed. The profile on my desktop is using simulated connections. If I have other ¡®local files¡¯ like special icons etc¡ I move those back and forth too. Old style sneakernet and a USB drive.

Thanks Ken.
I¡¯m curious as to why I¡¯m not seeing my original question in my topic?

I don't know what happened, but a new topic was created. I have manually merged the 2 together now.
