Cannot manually move cars in Operations
#operationspro
Hello.
I have been using JMRI for the Operations, and decoder programming for probably well over 15 years.? My problem now is not being able to? manually set cars, o assign locomotives to trains or generally speaking make any changes manually.? When I set a destination for any car, or assign locomotives, the changes I make do not register, nothing changes.? I recently downloaded JMRI 5.6., noticed the problem and went back to JMRI 5.4, but problem persists.
I am open to suggestions.? Thanks

Yes I "save",? as the program will not let me proceed without saving.? I get no messages when I "save".
I have discovered that I cannot "save" changes in other areas, such as in "preferences".? If I make changes in "preferences" they are not be saved.? It's beginning to look like more of? 'global' problem in my program.

I was having an identical problem to what you describe about "Setting" cars a week or so ago.
?
It turned out it was a conflict between what I wanted to do, and what either the "route" for the car, or the "location" of the car, was set at and permitted me to do.? I fixed my issue by going to either the 'route' or the 'location', and changed the "train direction" settings.? I don't remember exactly, but I think it was the Location, using the "Edit Location" button.

Since my last email, I have "uninstalled" version 5.6, and "reinstalled" version 5.4 with no changes problem.? I have since reinstalled version 5.6.
I can now 'save' changes in "Preferences, but still cannot save changes in 'car', 'locomotives', 'routes', or 'locations'.
Just a note, my JMRI operating programme is on C drive, and I keep my "data" on D drive, and backup to a stick.

Gord,
?
So no messages to the system console after you've pressed the "Save" button in the Set Cars window?
?
When you say you can not save changes, you do see the change in the Cars window after pressing "Save".? And only after you restart operations do you find that the data hasn't changed.? Correct?
?
Please find the operations directory in ?D:\Users\Gord\Documents\JMRI Data office\SLN_RR__DUNDAS_SUB.jmri.? Check the last date modified for the cars file and the other 5.? Normally we would see an error or warning message in the system console if JMRI wasn't able to update the files.

Dan,
?
No messages after pressing 'save' when setting cars, locos, and locations, or when exiting cars, locos, and location pages.
?
Yes I initially see the change in cars, locos, or locations, but the changes disappears after restarting.
?
The last date car, locos, and locations files are modified is 240730

Dan, "preference:" and "profile:" are the same unless ?"User Files Location" has been changed in "Preferences -> File Locations".? Thanks Dave, After doing some testing, I don't believe having different preferences and profile paths is the reason for Gord's problems. ?

Hi Dan,
?
OK, I've completed your previous instructions, and have been using the program with new config and data file, and the program is now performing properly except for one problem.
?
The problem is that it will not 'build' one particular train after I have set and saved cars and loco to build the train with.? On restart the changes I made for the cars and loco for this train are still there, but it will not 'build' the train.? Should I delete this train and rebuild from scratch???
?
I am using the new data file, but I am going to keep the old data file until I have used the program for awhile just to make sure I've transferred all the data I need.
?
Thanks Gord |

Hi Dan,
?
I have to go back to the email I sent on Aug 30th.
?
I completed your instructions setting up a new config and data file, but contrary to my previous response, the program is not performing properly.? Here's what is happening.? I will 'set' a car or a locomotive, and the new 'set' appears to be accepted, and they appear on the 'preview' as expected.? However when I 'save' and exit the program, then restart, the new settings have reverted to the previous settings, yet the 'new' setting still appear on the 'preview' until I make another change in settings.
?
When I go into my data file, none of? car, engine, location, or route rosters files have been modified since 24-07-30 which is when my problem appeared.? The program auto backups are up to date, but the roster files in the backup still haven't been modified since 24-07-30.? It appears the program is not saving changes made.? Any ideas???
?

When you start OperationsPro it automatically loads the last set of files saved by you.? You don't need to do a "Restore" or a load.
?
Under the "operations" directory, you should find the six operation files with an "Date Modified" the last time you did a save.
