New laptop - NCE USB interface problems
#nce
I have bought a new Laptop running Windows 11. ? I have checked that its drivers are all up to date.
PanelPro is loaded and works ok in NCE simulation mode. ? When changed to NCE USB?
it finds COM 4 but does not connect to the interface. ?I have followed the advice given on this site and set up the interface with jumpers on 2,3 and 4 and changed the baud rate to 19600 with no improvement.
?
My existing laptop is running Windows 10 and when started it finds COM 3 and connects at 9600 baud with no problems. ?There are no jumpers on 1,2,3 and 4 on the interface. ?I attach a copy of the system console.
Help!

Go to the Windows Device Manager.
Unplug and plug in your interface. The device manager should show it being removed and plugged back in. Check which Com port it says. To post your system console output, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste (Ctrl V) that into a message instead of creating a file that needs to be downloaded. -- Peter Ulvestad JMRI Users Group Moderator ( ) Tam Valley Group Moderator ( ) Sprog-DCC Group Moderator ( ) Edmonton Model Railroad Association ( ) |
I'm late to the party... What are you connecting the NCE USB interface to? The NCE USB interface is only for the Power Cab, if you are trying to connect your new laptop to JMRI via the NCE Power House then you need a USB to RS232 adapter, I have had good luck with the TripLite unit. I believe preferred brands are listed on the JMRI site. Hope this helps, good luck getting your connection working. Peter,
?
When my laptop was attached to the USB interface, the Device Manager indicated under Ports “Intel Active Management Technology - SOL (COM4)”
When uncoupled it indicated the same message? “Intel Active Management Technology - SOL (COM4)”. ? There was no indication that the USB had been disconnected.

That tells me that what is on Com4 is not your USB Interface and that the computer is not seeing the USB Interface.
I'm thinking it's a driver issue, drivers needing to be installed. I can't help any further as I know nothing about NCE. -- Peter Ulvestad JMRI Users Group Moderator ( ) Tam Valley Group Moderator ( ) Sprog-DCC Group Moderator ( ) Edmonton Model Railroad Association ( ) |
Terry M,
Well that's clearly not a NCE-USB device. It may be that both parts of the driver are not installed for the NCE-USB. One part deals with it at the USB level of device. The second driver makes COM device to that. Sometimes trying to install the driver twice works. But one trick in Device Manager is to go to the View tab and then select "Show Hidden Devices" and you might get to see some partially installed devices. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com |
开云体育Terry, ? I've got three different NCE systems attached. Here is my Device Manager list: ? Here is what is what: ? You may also find that you might have to force remove the existing driver on the device and start over doing the driver install. I would do a reboot between each step like remove driver, reboot, install driver, reboot, check driver (Device Manager), install driver again if not looking good, reboot, etc… ? -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team
