Locked Re: Build fail…Not using off spots or holding cars #operationspro

Dan,
?
I thought that if the spur was full, program checked for yard track in the same location.
?
In the build report excerpt below (from my friend's layout), a custom empty <MTY> (out of staging) cannot be sent to the target spur due to the track being full (edited to bold highlight), but then is assigned to a yard track (also bold) in the same location...<additional info : this spur's schedule is set to use only 100% from staging>

? ?Generate load for (ATSF 181642) type (Hop_LSnd) empty (E) at (ATSF_Denver-(stage, S. Denver/Trk 2) destination ()?
? ? Spur (MINTURN (Lower Yd), Minturn Yard-(Box_Insl) schedule (SLC <Sugar+Metal+CGds>) doesn't service type (Hop_LSnd)?
? ? Spur (CF&I Mill, CF&I Mill-limestone) schedule (CF&I<lime>) doesn't service type (Hop_LSnd)?
? ? Spur (MONARCH, Tipple) schedule (MONARCH<gravity>) doesn't service type (Hop_LSnd)?
? ? Spur (MP_Kansas City, Neff Yard) schedule (MP Neff) doesn't service type (Hop_LSnd)?
? ? Spur (ATSF_PUEBLO, Fuel Track) schedule (ATSF <fuel>) doesn't service type (Hop_LSnd)?
? ? Spur (Leadville, Leadville Yd-(AS&R shops) schedule (LDV <AS&R>) doesn't service type (Hop_LSnd)
? ? Try spur (Newton, SandCreek Yd-(RR Stores Trk) custom load (MTY)?
? ? Train (ATSF #413) can transport car (ATSF 181642) from staging (ATSF_Denver-(stage, S. Denver/Trk 2) to (Newton, SandCreek Yd-(RR?
? ? Stores Trk)?
? ? Route for car (ATSF 181642): (ATSF_Denver-(stage, S. Denver/Trk 2)-> (ATSF #413)-> (Newton, SandCreek Yd-(RR Stores Trk)?
? ? Can't use spur (Newton, SandCreek Yd-(RR Stores Trk) for (ATSF 181642) due to rolling stock length 40 feet, track length 165?
? ? feet, available track space 13 feet?
? ? Track (SandCreek Yd-(RR Stores Trk) full, searching for a yard at destination (Newton)?
? ? Can't use yard (Caboose) due to type (Hop_LSnd)?
? ? Can't use yard (SandCreek Yd(Recv)) due to type (Hop_LSnd)?
? ? Sending car (ATSF 181642) to yard (SandCreek Yd(MTYs)) at destination (Newton)?
? ?Car (ATSF 181642) custom load (MTY) final destination (Newton, SandCreek Yd-(RR Stores Trk)?
? ? Car (ATSF 181642) load (MTY) has assigned destination (Newton, SandCreek Yd(MTYs))?
? Car (ATSF 181642) assigned to train, destination (Newton, SandCreek Yd(MTYs))?
?
The car then sits in the yard-type track with the tag to be moved on into the spur when space opens up.
?
This follows what I thought the Help file lays out under the section on "Alternate Track"...
If you don't specify an alternate, the program will try to send cars with a custom load or final destination to a yard at that location.
Have I stumbled across a glitch in the matrix?? Or am I missing a variable?
?
Happy to help, hope it helps,

Ermanno,

This feature will be included in the next test version JMRI 5.9.5 and the next production release 5.10.

The next test release 5.9.5 is about to be released in a week or two and it would be very good if you could install it and check that it works as you want.

The LogixNG only uses the current value of the Reporter, not the last reported.

?

The issue is that whenever a new locomotive is reported in the same Reporter, and the LogixNG reduces its speed, the throttle speed for the previous locomotive (which was reported and processed by the LogixNG) is concurrently set to ZERO.

?

I have checked the system log and the LogixNG only sends out the throttle speed to the current reported locomotive.

The Loconet Monitor shows the message “Set Speed of Loco in Slot 6 to 0. (Slot 6 is the previous locomotive that was reported).

Loconet Slots also shows that the previous locomotive slot changes from In-Use to IDLE.

?

Is anyone aware of any settings/LogixNG characteristics ?which would direct/influence this behaviour?

?

System Information attached.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Bob, this worked! Still have to fine tune the motor but this gets one annoying thing off the list.

Thanks,

This headlight behavior might be part of how Digitrax transponding works. Perhaps there’s a way to turn transponding off in the decoder if you’re not using it?

The number of cars with custom loads from staging is controlled by the "Percentage of custom loads generated from staging" feature.? The default is 100% which means only send what the spur can hold.? If you want additional cars to use the alternate / off spot or yard tracks at the location, you need to demand more cars from either staging or from industries on the layout.
?
Consider if the "Percentage of custom loads generated from staging" feature didn't exist.? For example a spur that needs boxcars, if there was a dozen boxcars departing staging they all could go to a spur that held only one car, and that could overload any "off-spot" or yard near by.? The feature prevents overloading an industry and the industry's yards that need custom loads out of staging.
?
Note that I've used the words "custom loads out of staging" when describing the program's behavior. Cars out of staging with default loads "E" or "L" behave differently.? The program can send cars with default loads to a spur's alternate track if the spur's track was full. It doesn't matter if the car was departing staging or any other type of track.

Joe,

I believe this can occur if your off-spot track is located in the same location as the target track and is a "yard"-type track.
So, something like...
Location: Dunn Papermill
? ?Track : "Kaolin Holds" <track type=Yard>
? ? ? Length = 88' <2 cars>
This should allow extra (up to 2) cars to flow to Dunn and await room on T4-C.??
(And it need not be a separate physical track, maybe just use the extra track length between the turnout and the unload area for the kaolin tanks.)

Hey Paul.
?
As far as I can tell, and perhaps Dan can confirm, the help file confirms only NCE-capability for now,
?
If you are using NCE as your DCC command station, you can have the program synchronize your consist numbers with your locomotives. The program will read all of the consists out of the NCE system and then will search for matching locomotives in your operations roster. The program will assign the consist name?nce_xxx?where xxx is the consist number. To synchronize your Consists, select "Synchronize with NCE Consists" under the "Tools" from the "Locomotives" menu.
?
And I wanted to add a thought to your idea expressed earlier,
If, however, I'm using timetable and train orders, the other crews are required to pay close attention to the locomotive numbers that they're scheduled to meet; in this scenario, they'd need to look at both the lead?and?trailing unit of the locomotive consist during a meet. Ugh.?
I'm just trying to figure out a solution that doesn't turn into unintuitive mush during an op session.
In TT&TO, crews are sometimes looking for a specific engine number, but some railroad's rules do not require that loco to be the leading loco in an actual consist, just that is has on it's number lights.? So, if the lead loco has extinguished number boards and the trail unit has them on, the ID of the train can be the same, even if the loco is trail.? For our tiny trains, the throttle can run the loco backwards, making the consist operate with the #789 loco in the lead, but "indicated" reverse travel on throttle.? Not many of us probably look at the throttle direction indicator anyway, since if it doesn't move correctly when we start out, we just hit the direction button and Voila!? And if the branch is dead end, then it might be intuitive to think of "backing up" to get home as well.... just thoughts.

Daniel,

For Digitrax decoders, the K1C (or A0 and others) are form factors of the decoders to fit different models or connectors. They all have the same firmware.
The issue we have here is Digitrax has reused the DN147 which was used years ago based on their naming conventions and the new DN147 have different firmware.
The naming convention is broken down here:

One option is to open an Issue on GitHub, requesting that decoder to be added to JMRI.

The DN147 currently shown in DecoderPro is the model which became redundant in 2002. ?DN147K1C's are the 2024 variant which have a version number of 204 from memory.
I think it's unfortunate that Digitrax is essentially recycling an old designation and causing a bit of confusion.
