Thanks Chris. I think you're describing turning a chosen alternate colour on or off not how to choose the colour. What I need/want to do however is that the alternate colour for a block is a variable

Layout Editor and Control Panel Editor have some shortcuts. LogixNG has a set for the main editor. The macOS version of JMRI includes cmd-Q for Quit and cmd-, for Preferences. ctrl/cmd-w can be used
