OK, it seems you have to somehow "know" the magic hex identifier tacked onto the profile name in order for the -p option to work (this means digging into the profiles.xml file to find it).

The profile selector needs to be disabled using "Preferences -> Config Profiles". The command line uses the profile id: This is found in the "profiles.xml" file at ~/.jmri. Dave Sand
