Doing just on and off room lights isn’t too hard. But I’ve seen a number of different attempts. Right now the best choice isn’t cheap but works pretty well. Look up the DMX light controllers that are used by the theater and shows. They use a ton of those for rock concerts. Only problem I’ve had is the cheap USB interfaces. You find a number of them with identical descriptions but only some of them have the right drivers that JMRI can connect with. Right now, only ones that show up as a serial communication port are ones that JMRI will work with.
