Something is wrong here.
The SoundTraxx document cited shows that there has been plenty of info supplied by the manufacturer about distinguishing their products.
If the JMRI is up to date, the additional CVs read should narrow the particular model much better than what you are relating.
If in doubt, don't flip a coin. Read the CVs discussed in the doc yourself to see which decoder to select.
