Instead of the values of the slider being from left to right (like normal) why not from top to bottom. It would keep the sliders close together.

perhaps even rotating the individual letters so it still looks like 123 when you flip your head onto your left shoulder.
Those sound like good ideas. I don't know how to do them, so will have to do a little reading up.
