Device manager it is the drivers are working properly the usb cable its self works great.
Did not notice any led activity.

I think it's time we try a non-JMRI test of this. I'll get back to you later on this one.

Although it seems the small black tower on the usb side gets warm

I'm not sure what a "small black tower on the usb side" is. It's not unusual for things to get warm. If something is too hot for sustained finger contact, that's a problem.
