I dont know what the experts do, but when I get a com port error starting JMRI in Windows 10 I edit the com port setting and restart JMRI.
Windows seems to change the com port arbitrarily when booting.

?
I have JMRI connected to my layout with an NCE USB interface. I have software for the interface using COMM4. Since originally installing JMRI, I updated my computer to Windows 10. When I try to start DecoderPro I get this message in a window: ¡°Unable to create connection "NCE2" (N2). ?Serial port COM4 is in use. Unable to run startup actions due to earlier failures.¡± I believe I have deleted ¡°NCE2(N2). When I ignore message and continue to DecoderPro and select a locomotive the following error message appears at bottom of screen: ¡°Service mode program NCE is offline and Operator mode program NCE is offline¡±. I spoke with Ed at NCE today and he said problem is with JMRI and Windows 10.
What do I do? When I had Windows 7 Pro, I was able to set up 5 locomotives.

Thank you,
