Cliff and John¡ªI¡¯m also having problems with launch after new install on Windows 10 PC. Two weeks ago one users group member sent an idea to check or modify my profile, and it worked partially, but I could not understand his second idea that involved creating a simulator profile to help prevent the hang, on launch.
On Sunday August 12, I posted another request for help, with perhaps too many details, about the six or seven things I¡¯ve tried so far to get consistent and successful launches of JRMI and Panel Pro for operations.
For right now the only thing that usually works for me to get a successful launch is to right click the Panel Pro icon and then select the option to open as administrator. That gives another level of permission for Java and JMRI to open. That usually works, and when it occasional does not work, the only way I can recover is to reboot my computer and repeat that procedure. When I get clean launches there is nothing unusual in the system console report or messages, and when launch fails there are no reports to provide a good lead about the problem.
By the way, for what it¡¯s worth, it also opens correctly in the install test mode with my profile, and I can actually do work within the operations program that will be stored and saved correctly for my profile. However, the operations manual advises against doing working in that mode. Further, in the install test mode I do not have to go through the extra step of opening it as the administrator, but a simple click to open in that install test mode has always worked, without fail. I have no idea if that is important or not as a clue for problem solution.
I think the long-time members are mostly involved with much more complicated issues, but this failure to consistently launch is sure discouraging for a new user. It seems like something very basic is involved, but I have not been able to search out or stumble on a solution. I¡¯ll stay tuned to see if anyone has an idea on this.

Subject: [jmriusers] Issues Installing JMRI on new PC with WIndows 10
?
I'm having a hard time making JMRI work after installing.
I tried uninstalling (using Windows process) a few times before installing again.
Upon uninstallation process "LaunchJMRI.exe and UnInstall.exe" files can't be deleted with message indicating needing appropriate permission (getting Admin rights may be another issue).
Turns out installing another time even with a different release can't access that LaunchJMRI.exe file but not sure if that would make the difference if they are the same files across all releases.
Running "InstallTest.bat" seems to provide positive results but I don't see anything on my browser with shortcut and tying to execute from directory results in message indicating I need rights.
Is using Google Chrome okay for a browser?
If it should make a difference, How can I completely eliminate all JMRI files so I can start with a clean slate again?
Thanks for any guidance,
John Coiron
