Info/advice

Hello All.
My PC is leaking oil from the camshaft rubber seal/plug.
I plan to replace the 4 seal/plugs soon.
I am wondering if I can do this without removing the rocker cover?
If I loosen the studs and nuts will I disturb the head gasket?
What torque do I use to tighten the studs back to?
I have read somewhere that there is a risk of losing valve shims.
Any info on my plans would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks Eugene

Some guys have tried the pull and poke method with some luck. There was only one on mine. I can stil replace it. If type cam plugs at the site you will get some good info.

Eugene,
?
Please see Post #128929 for a correction to one of the torques specified in the PC800 Service Manual.? Here is an updated link to .
?
Some other comments on the subject are in Post #109719.? (You may want to read that whole thread.)? And Post #125979 and Post #72748.

The cam plugs have a ridge which fits into a corresponding groove in the cylinder head and cover. They do not come out easily without lifting the cylinder head cover and you'll have to remove some or all of the ridges to get replacements to just slip in.
?
You can see the grooves in the cylinder head in the photograph below at the end of the camshaft.? Also note that the (evil) shims are below the tappets, e.g. the tappet I'm holding up.? As long as you raise the cover carefully and ensure that the tappets don't lift out the shims won't go wild.

And Bob's your uncle,
Seth

I have a series of photos on Flickr that shows a bit more detail back when I did mine in 2010. Hopefully you can see the whole set from this one link:

It wasn't difficult, just nerve-wracking as I had no garage at the time and worked outside in my driveway.

Cheers!

Might try cleaning the outside and using black RTV - cheap and easy
