Re: cam seal replacement


 

Larry,

There are no O-rings on the camshaft plugs, just ridges molded in.
You should have bought the "water pipe seals" (item (14) on pages 8-2
and -3 of the Service Manual)) for the coolant pipes that need to be
removed when pulling the cylinder head covers and the sealing washers
(items (2) & (4)) for the oil pipe bolts.

I pulled the cylinder head covers to get at the gaskets and used
HondaBond sealant during assembly.

The engine has the cutest little hydraulic tappets I've ever seen. Be
really careful when pulling the covers that the tappets and shims
don't make a break for it. Really careful about the shims. Really.

FYI: The torques listed for the cylinder head cover 8mm flange bolt
(item (8) on pages 8-2 and -3 of the Service Manual) are wrong. It
should read 27 (2.7,20) as shown on page 1-14.
