printing in Internet Explorer

Dane Robison

The answer to this is probably right in front of me, but I can't find it.

In MSIE, when I try to print a web site that's built in frames, I can only
print one frame at a time. Isn't there an option somewhere to change that
behavior? I'd like to print the whole frameset, as it appears in the
browser.

Can someone point this poor soul toward the answer?

Thanks,
Dane

Internet Config Question

BrianS

Okay, so it's also a Eudora Pro question...

I'm using iCab as my browser of choice. It is selected in Unternet Config. BBEdit goes to iCab automatically. However when I click on a link in an email (in Eudora), it opens and runs Navigator... :-(

I looked through every setting in Eudora, and there are no areas dealing with "helper apps". AND, I've checked the setting which gives "full compliance with OT/PPP"...so, now what? Where else would there be a setting or Preference? Inside Navigator, itself? Thanks for your considerations.

All the Best,
BrianS

I use Claris Emailer which doesn't handle HTML and have had no ads,
pictures or garbage since the list moved to eGroups. I have to enter the
IOMUG address manually though.
But I've now found I can correct that in the Preferences so replies go to
the list automatically.

The LIST needs to be made non-HTML before the pieces will go away. I
have mine set to no HTML - and still get the pictures. The LIST needs
to be set to accept NO ATTACHMENTS - this will turn all the picture
ads into simple typewritten ads as below:

Try Audion or SoundJam for playing MP3 files. You can find either by doing a
search at <>.

Also, since downloading Napster, everything seems to be very
sluggish: the server, connections, software (Eudora, AOL, etc.). Any
connection, do you think?
Don't have Napster running in the background. Only use it when you are
actively using it. If you do that and you still experience a slowdown, I
doubt it would be because of Napster. Then again I suppose one never
knows...

I get the digest version and using Eudora 5.0 (the free version - with no ads) I receive only written text, no flashing or otherwise annoying advertisements. I do receive, at the very end of the digest the following message: [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] This I can handle.......
I did turn off HTML in the Settings window under Fonts and Display. Maybe that is what eliminates the ads.

Top Menu Bar

Much thanks to Albert Johnson and Brent Pennington for pointing out that my problem was probably with an extension or two which needed to be turned off to clean up my menu bar. I found two which looked suspicious, turned them off, restarted and it worked.

Thanks again.......what a great list!

I don't think that the largest free block has something to do with
it.
On our Macs here until I added gobs more RAM to them, we would notice that
the Finder became EXTREMELY slow to redraw the Desktop if we had opened so
many apps that the Largest Free Block was very small (1-2 MB or less).

But when you've got 100 MB free, and have always had at least that much
there's no danger that the System Heap doesn't have room to grow some more I
don't think.

Even when my computer is slow, the largest unused block is as
big as a 100MB of RAM. When you look at About this Computer and see
how much RAM applications take, the Mac OS is one of those and its
progress bar is entirely filled. I remember from experience that
when the bar is full and that it refuses to change, my computer
slows down and is more crash prone.
The System Heap is dynamic, and always shows "nearly full" if I recall
correctly. The bar gets longer as needed, or if it's already the longest one
the scale of it shrinks

Of course "managing" that huge chunk of RAM is a different issue, and this
may be what affects a slowdown.

Cheers

Roger

When I open up a ezine, i get an automatic connect to the inet. This is very
aggravating especially in our school setting. How can I turn this off?
I can help with this part. Under the file menu, choose "Work Offline." You
will have to override this setting every time you do mail, but it beats the
reconnects.

System Heap

What would be a good way to allocate more memory to the system software so
that it has more breathing space under Mac OS 9 ? I notice that when I have
several applications opened, it slows down a bit and its memory bar in the
"About this computer" window gets full when it does this.

DMS- quality products and service. I've bought RAM and CPU's from them on
various occasions, no problems. I've also found them to have the best

MRP's RAMWATCH Memory Vendors

david craig

I'm in the market for a 128 or 256 MB memory module for my B&W G3/450.
The machine currently has 196 installed, all of it by Apple when I
ordered the machine. I truly haven't a clue whether or not the brand of
memory actually matters, and I'd love some help.

I bought memory from one of the Macintosh Resource Page's
(<>) a long time ago and was pleased with the
experience. The RAMWATCH price list currently undercuts the catalog
vendors I know of significantly. The current vendor list includes Data
Memory Systems, MacMart, MemoryToGo, Other World Computing, and RamJet.

I'd appreciate feedback on which of these vendors I should look at most
closely, and which (if any) I should avoid, based on your experience.
I'm more interested in the "quality" of memory that the vendor supplies,
because I know poor customer service gets you bounced from RAMWATCH, but
if any of you DO have rotten experiences with current RAMWATCH vendors,
I guess I'd like to know about that, too :-)

Thanks!

I guess I thought that the System Heap is dynamic, and will continue to grow
as required as long as there is free space continguous to the System Heap for
it to grow into.

And there "should" be contiguous free space as long as you've never got the
machine to the point where the "Largest Free Block" has got to zero. When the
Largest Free Block does get to zero tthe System Heap can't grow any more, and
if whatever it was that took that last chunk of memory doesn't properly
release it then no matter how many other programmes you quit the System Heap
won't be able to grow any more until you restart the computer.

I've bought from both DMS and OWC on the RAMWatch page with good results.

They both sell "2-2-2" memory, which is the fastest kind there is. Nothing
I've bought from them has failed.

Excellent idea :)

So that idea probably isn't very practical. Since Mark receives the user

it in his heart to pay the fee himself. Just an idea, nothing more...

It could very well be Adobe ATM causing the problems on your #1 iMac. You
need the latest version of Adobe ATM (4.6.1). Adobe ATM versions earlier
than 4.5.2 cause horrible crashes with OS 9. You can pick up your free ATM

Also, I have 2 iMacs: #1 is a 333/192 running OS 8.6, #2 is a 450/192
running OS 9.0.4. #2 has fire wire and DVD drive, while #1 does not.
I would like to upgrade #1 to 9.0.4 (via the CDs that came with #2)
but when I last tried the result was multiple crashes in every
application, including the finder on start-up. I gave up and did a
clean install of 8.6.

My question: Does this have anything to do with the DVD or Firewire
Extensions that are being installed? I wiped all those out and even
ran ConflictCatcher, but to no avail (CC's assessment was that Adobe
ATM was the culprit, but CC is another story)...Could this be an
Apple software piracy safeguard? Do I have to purchase a new copy of
OS 9 to install on #1, rather than using the CD's that came with #2?
Even though I personally own both computers (one personal, one for
business) am I supposed to maintain separate software for each
one--ethically and otherwise?

I realize this is a mouthful--thanks in advance for input,

IMHO this upgrade is not worth it, unless you have a significant investment

Addendum to my personal upgrade path: by buying a used 7600 and upgrading
the processor, I was able to move all of my RAM, my hard drives, my video
card, and all of my peripherals from my 7200 to the 7600. Took less than 30
