ISP/email host???
Bit frustrated today as this is the second time in two years that 3-4 months of email data just vanishes.? Host is IONOS.com have been with them for more than 10 years, and twice this has happened just recently.? They claim they can only restore the past 7 days.?
SO - I am on the search for a new host.? Note that back in 2021 Randy highly recommending ICDSoft, just visited their site and ready sign up and transfer.? ?
Just wanted to ask the group if any updates to that recommendation and/or other options.?
?
Thanks in advance - love this board when I encounter Mac challenges.?

开云体育macOS 15.1 is an old version and I would have expected some bugs in it since it was so close to 15.0. I encourage you to upgrade to 15.5 instead.

15.1 update issues (Cross post)
Since Apple MacOS 15.1 update, I noticed clicking any button or URL in social media sites causes the cursor to jump back a couple frames and require one or more clicks to follow through.
Yesterday, I discovered my space bar is disabled in Second Life (Virtual World simulation). Users suggested clicking on the space key in the Keyboard Viewer. It did not show my extended keyboard, until after a reboot., but, even now it only displays the U.S. keyboard. I have scanned for possible virus. Guess I Need to downgrade to 15.0… M1 iMac,

Re: Installing Instapaper
开云体育Have you installed the Instapaper app? Or, you could visit the website. Either would be a way to access the content you’ve saved to this service. On May 25, 2025, at 12:32, Barbara Mende <barbara@...> wrote:

Hi Barbara, I don't even use FireFox, and I don't even know what the Instapaper extension is but have you tried searching your system for what ever name you gave to whatever you saved? I did find this using chatGPT. Hope this helps. Cheers, John On macOS, the Firefox extension for?Instapaper?does?not?save article content or bookmarks directly to a local file that’s easily accessible like a standard download. Instead, it works by sending the data (webpages, article text, metadata) to?Instapaper’s cloud servers, where it’s stored in your account for access via web or app. However, here’s what does get stored locally:

Re: Migrate from 2014 iMac to Mac mini m4
Hi Ben, I use Time Machine for my everyday back-up. The G Tech back-up was to make doubly sure that my most important files were safe. Music, photo's finances?etc. This was all before iCloud of course, so I really don't need to worry quite as much as I used to.? Re: Migrate from 2014 iMac to Mac mini m4
开云体育Good job recovering storage! I would use the extracted SSD in an enclosure that natively works with your new Mac. Also, what are you doing for automated backup? (Generally I discourage manual backup because I burned myself once upon a time by copying in the wrong direction.) On May 23, 2025, at 20:06, Howard Kirsch via groups.io <howard.k65@...> wrote:

Re: Migrate from 2014 iMac to Mac mini m4
Thanks for all the help and suggestions. It turns out that I was able to find quite a bit more files that I was able to download to my external drive so that I only had 130GB left on the internal drive of the iMac. Because of that I bought I bought the 512GB version of the Mac mini today, and did a migration this afternoon that went smoothly. However there are a number of questions after the fact. Here's one. I have an old 6TB G technology hard drive with a firewire 800 port that I had adapted to a thunderbolt 2 to go into my iMac. I use it as a manual back-up for important files, as well as workflow and storage for my Final Cut Pro files. I have a 2 yr old 4TB SSD drive in my? iMac which I'm having removed at M.A.C. on Monday.? Should I get a thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 adapter to make the G technology compatible with the mac mini, or transfer the files to the SSD from the old computer? My thought was to use the removed SSD drive as my new media drive, and transfer the Final Cut libraries to it. I hope you all can follow! Any ideas??

That’s great, Randy, but how does it help Howard? He’s asking about internal storage on a Mac mini.

Jaqi, thanks for that. It seems that there were/are many different ways of doing this. It might even be at the level of individual schools.

开云体育I concur. It’s not great to start out over half full and Randy would probably reference performance degradation when an SSD is 70% full. If your usage was closer to 200GB, then perhaps 512GB would be appropriate. On May 22, 2025, at 20:47, Peter Rasmusen <peter@...> wrote:

Re: Migrate from 2014 iMac to Mac mini m4
Hi Peter,
?
Thanks for your advice. I found a file in Containers labeled Vimeo. That was the culprit. I upload my videos to Vimeo for distribution, but apparently they keep the files on the local computer as well. I trashed it and found a few other movies that I moved to external storage so now my local hard drive shows about 295 GB of used storage. Do you still think I need to go up to the 1 TB drive?
?
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me with this.? |
Re: a very simple question (I hope)
开云体育Oh, Otto,I wasn’t gonna engage on this classwork marking, but you asked … in my Oregon elementary school in the 1950’s and high school in the 1960’s, we usually got a red pencil slash through a wrong answer, no marks on correct answers. ?Then the same red pencil was used to write the percentage of correct answers, plus a grade, at the top of the test.? ? Getting every single answer correct meant a big red “100% ? A+ “ ?at the top right of the first page. ? Getting two wrong, out of say, 10 questions, got two red slashes, then an “80% ?B-“ written at the top. ?A’s were always from 90% - 100%; ? B’s were usually from 80% - 89%, but maybe as low as 75%; ? C’s were usually from 60%-79% but could stop at 75%; ? D’s were usually from 50% - 60%, but still a passing grade, though shamefully low; ?and F’s were a failing grade, which was anything less than 50%. ?In short, the more red marks throughout the test, the worse you did. Jaqi? P.S. ?Where is / how is / Bob Gelardi in this chain? ?Bob, are you okay? ?Busy? ?Traveling? ?Just uninterested? ?Hope all is well with you and your loved ones!
