Hahaha! Shades of slapping the side of the TV set to fix it.?

I had never heard of WhiteTack or BlackTack until I tried searching for Blue Tack on Amazon. I was also surprised to see various versions of Blue Tack itself there.
I tend to make lists of multiple items for Amazon orders rather than one thing at a time. I will add all the variants of Blue Tack to my list.

In the UK we would buy this sort of thing at a stationers or office supplies before Amazon came along.

A clone is a whole, “snapshot” back up.?

I HIGHLY recommend a clean install and not an install-in-place. Here are instructions:

This is different than what most of the articles on the Web suggest doing. It requires that you have a clone external backup of your internal hard drive. But you should probably have one of those in any case. (I can explain why in detail, if you like.)

My pal having the problem has a?MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), a TM backup but no clone.

Do your requirements that he have an external clone in order to follow those instructions still apply?

Many thanks.

Ah! I see the problem. He doesn’t have the patience to troubleshoot and fix the problem. They he needs to either take it to a shop or buy a new one. Just like if it was a car. There is no snap your fingers and it is fixed. ?

You never replied back if it was a heat issue.?

You miss the concept, turn on Migration Assistant and let it move over the stuff.?

OR the alternative is a lot of work, which he already indicated he doesn’t want to do. Do a clean install, and move over only his Docs. Then have him go thru and adjust the Settings. (The defaults change as the OS change, to highlight the new eye candy,) He’ll have to re-install his third party apps and reset their settings. He might have to replace some apps, and possibly hardware.?

Re: Another senior with problems.

Hello Bob,

It's not an issue. I was just curious why it happened as it was the first time I have ever seen a "webloc" extension. I don't click on attachments in e-mail anyway, but I saved them to my hard disk and opened them with a text editor. They seem to be xml files with the following "doctype" line:

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" ">

The actual URL is a bit further down between two "<dict>" delimiters and they are definitely worth bookmarking for possible future use.
