Re: Migration - new MacBook
开云体育Hi Peter -It’s extremely difficult to migrate piecemeal in the way you describe. I don’t recommend it. Additionally, it might actually work out that the kernel extension that caused you problems on your previous Mac won’t have the same effect on your new Mac. I recommend doing a standard migration of all your data and hoping for the best. By the way, the signed system volume is not inherent to APFS but isn’t how Apple has been offering macOS as of Big Sur. - Ben

Do any of the Mac Studio port sleep?
开云体育I have a Mac Studio
(2022) M1 Max running Ventura 13.4.1. I have these little USB
driven speakers for that have a blue light. I would love for
these to go to sleep when my monitors do. The primary monitor is
an LG HDR 4K Display (27-inch) Can any of the ports go
to sleep? I have tried searching and only seem to find
references to laptops or ports that shouldn't be asleep.
Many thanks! |
Migration - new MacBook
Long story ahead ... be warned.?
A while back I wrote about my old beloved 15" MacBook Pro mid 2015 with 16 GB / 1TB? For this of you (= all) who don't recall my perils, it it went from nice to evil after upgrading from Mojave to Monterey. Fans running a high speed constantly, kernel task using all the ressources. It was practically useless. ?I did literally everything to troubleshoot the issue including consulting Apple and non-apple experts. The most likely culprit being the kernel extension calls IOPlatformFamilyPlugin.kext which I have earlier had trouble with ... deleting it solved alle the issues. In Monterey it's undeleteable. My file system changed to APFS and it is no longer possible to mess with (= delete) kext files.? The result can be seen here:? A minute or so after I start the computer, it's useless ... in the picture above the only user app's that are running is Activity Monitor (and of course iCloud is run-in the background).? Anyway ... since the APFS volume is a secured volume that cannot be tampered with, I cannot get rid of the kernel extension and - well it may not have helped, but I have tried everything else. So I gave up and now my new computer has arrived: A MacBook Bro 14" M2Max with 32 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD.? Now I need to migrate I have most of my user data in iCloud and on external drives. Migrating everything from the old MBP would take a million years (see the image above - not really an abundance of fre ressources - even typing my name would take about 3 minutes). So I can restore from iCloud and from my external drives, but there are things I need, and I have no I idea how ... Most of all settings ... like the filters in Mail that automatically sorts my incoming mail. ?Is there a settings file ... a plist ... that I can dig out and re-use?? And if so, where does it reside?? I also want all the mail I have stored in On My Mac ... there are a lot of folders with mail I have sorted in categories and projects. How do I get that over to the new computer.? Everything else ... documents, pictures, music, I can move manually from my backups. And all the IMAP mail will show up again when I set up the accounts ... so it really isn't a lot I need from the terror-machine. But how to go about it .... any suggestions? With hope, Peter |

She didn’t talk to me about it, she just did some research and ordered one. She told me about it when it was on its way. It was an AOC, which I hadn’t even heard of at the time. I asked her how much it was, and she told me that it was UNDER $100. I was worried that, for the price, that it might not even turn on. How could a nice monitor be under $100, I thought. The monitor showed up, she hooked it up to her laptop, and…it was beautiful. I was stunned. So, I learned that off-brand monitors can be really nice. Not just AOC either. I’ve seen several monitors with unrecognizable brand names that have had beautiful displays. It all depends on where they get their components from, I guess. __________________________________________________ Randy B. The go-to brand used to be Samsung. Do they still make monitors worth considering but others are just better value now? Otto |

How about audio from a website being played by a browser, as described in the OP? I'll have to try this myself. Otto On Mon, 26 Jun 2023 at 22:52, Brent via <whodo678=[email protected]> wrote:

开云体育Audio does not seem to have a standard. ?I listen to audiobooks with Libby. It is an app to borrow books, similar to borrowing thru a library.? It will often play, even when actively using another app to do other things like Mail.app, many items on Facebook, Messages.app, or games. Games and their ads seem to give the widest range of results. Some allow the audiobook to play, some if the ad is short, some allow two audio track to play and some mess up all audio.? This is on an iPhone Xr, running 16.5.1. I am sure it varies by device and OS. I have found no settings to alter this.? Re: Off the Subject ... an iPad Question
Everything overlaps. Just look at, for example, networking a Mac computer with any other computer, not to mention connecting all sorts of mobile phones and tablets to a Mac via USB or even wifi.
