Does size matter? How about this, which is USB-powered and good enough for audio measurements.

Follow up on trial and error testing: I found in my drawer of USB adapters a ?USB Audio Sound Adapter plug-dongle thing and was able to plug in a known working (albeit not on the 'approved list' of mics for dictation) lav mic which I'd been using for all my videoconferencing very successfully.
The mic was recognized in my Mac Studio Ventura Sound Prefs, I selected it there as well as in the Keyboard Dictation Prefs (per normal), and tried once again dictating, into TextEdit. ?Again the results were laughable. Useless.?
So now I'm thinking I need third-party software.
