No audio, no transmit after programming IC-7000
9
My IC-7000 had been sitting a while and has a history of very light use. One night I pulled it out and decided to update the local repeaters. After programming the IC-7000 with R T Systems software, I hear no audio and the radio does not appear to transmit, no red line on the display. I then tried a full reset, and still no audio on all bands and no transmit on all bands. Any ideas on how to correct the problem? TIA Jon, N8YSS

To DATA jack or Accessory jack, that is the question.
7
I setup a DigiRig to my IC-7000 and connected the audio in/out/PTT to the Accessory connector. I was wondering if there is a compelling reason to use the DATA jack instead? From what I read in the manual the mic audio is muted when PTT is asserted through the DATA jack and I can confirm it is not muted when keyed via the Accessory jack. SO I should disconnect the mic when running digital modes. I'm thinking it would be proper to use the DATA jack just because of that. Taking VARA FM WIDE out of the mix (would require using the 9600 bps output on the DATA jack), for VARA HF/FM, fldigi (PSK, RTTY, Olivia) or perhaps a voice keyer, is there any other reason to prefer one over the other (Accessory vs DATA AF OUT)? What has been your experience? Thanks Danny

IC7000 Audio Hiss
13
My 7000 seems to have developed a strong hiss in the receive mode. Originally, I thought it was is atmospheric but the noise didn¡¯t change when the coax was disconnected. some details that help diagnosis: Hiss is pretty much the same across HF and VHF; 1.8 and 435 MHZ are the worst. Pre amp makes it much worse, as expected This has been getting worse or a period of time; gradually developing not sudden onset Any thoughts, such a list of usual suspect components, appreciated Kurt KD6LZV

IC-7000 not stable on 10 & 14 MHz into reactive load
2
Hello, I am new to this group. I did try to send this before and I didn't see it pop up in the list so apologies if it comes up twice. I have been looking at a crook IC-7000 for a friend of mine which has an issue on TX on 10 and 14 MHz. 14 MHz seems to be unstable into a reactive load. Works ok on a good dummy load. I initially suspected the low pass filter (LPF) section especially surrounding the 10 & 14 MHz part as these two bands share the same filter section. I looked at the radio on the spectrum analyser and see that 14 MHz has the fundamental and two spurs flicking between 2 ¨C 10 dB down from the fundamental. I note on SSB with no modulation and the radio set to its lowest power into a reactive load or even an open circuit it will take off and put out power and oscillating at around 12 MHz. 10 MHz will do the same but oscillates at 11 MHz. This only appears on these two bands only, all others OK. The placement of those two pink rubber pads has an effect on stability as well and I found the ones in this radio were in the wrong place. I have been through the relay driver logic and looked / tested the relay crossover points where it switches bands. All relays picking where they should be. Also tested continuity from the input of the LPF to the input of the SWR detection transformer and I have good continuity and can see the blips in the continuity as I change bands so looks like the coils in the LPF are good. It¡¯s a weird one.. Haven¡¯t pulled the PA board off yet, just doing pre-tests before I rip into it. Any ideas about this problem would be useful and maybe someone has seen this before. I am suspecting caps in the LPF. The local ICOM repairer has looked at it and couldn¡¯t fix it. Cheers & 73, Simon ZL1SWW

IC-7000 not unconditionally stable on 10 & 14 MHz
Hello, I am trying to fix a friend's 7000 that is iffy on TX on 10 & 14 MHz. I immediately think that there maybe an issue with the LPF relays / components on these bands as I see that the 10 and 14 MHz are sharing the same LPF section. All other HF bands are stable. Looking on the specan when running a reactive load shows lower output with spurs flicking around 2- 10 dB lower than the fundamental. It doesn't show it on 10 MHz at all. with no modulation on USB and no load it will oscillate at around 12 MHz. Into a proper dummy load it seems to be fine. I haven't pulled the PA board yet to see if I have bad caps etc in the LPF section. Checked all the logics and the appropriate relays are picking for the correct band. One thing i noticed is that thiose pink rubber pads have to be ina specific place to help stop the oscillation. Had a situation before on 20 m where the radio would click off and reboot with no mod and on the lowest power setting with a reactive load. My own IC-7000 seems stable as when doing the similar tests. Still suspecting omething in the LPF and relay continuity for that band and all others seems OK whne stesing with a DMM. Maybe crook caps? Any ideas / experiences with this? The local ICOM repairer couldn't fix or find anything. Thanks, Simon ZL1SWW

CW keyer not working
5
Hi group, I am trying, and trying, to get the CW keyer memories play. But they simply won't. I can set the content of the four memories without problem, but when going into KEY->SND and then pushing an F-key for any of the memories it produces just a normal button beep. It does not play the CW message. Anyone having a clue about what could be wrong here? Thanks, Daniel SM6VFZ

Running an IC-7600 & IC-7000 with One Amp
3
Some of this may have been covered before, and if so, I apologize for possibly bringing some of it up again. I'm currently running in my shack, an Icom IC-7600 into an ARB-704 buffer interface into an Ameritron AL-80A (also the same as the Heathkit SB-1000 3-500Z) amp. All is fine and works great. I also have an IC-7000 that I took out of my mobile that I'm now thinking about also running into the same amp (one radio at a time of course). And only using one antenna out of the amp. I thought I'd try it as opposed to letting it sit on a shelf or selling it. I have a 5 position relay operated remote switch, an Ameritron RCS-8V, 5 inputs, one port out that will handle switching of the 2 radio's RF out, into an automatic "switcher", that will direct whichever radio is sending the keying signal into the ARB-704 first, then to the amp. I believe, but am not totally sure if my IC-7000's HSEND keying signal into the buffer interface will work perfectly as my IC-7600 does keying the amp, with its 10ms TX Delay. There does not seem to be any option for setting a TX Delay on my IC-7000 as there is on my IC-7600. So, to sum it up, any suggestions as to my concerns with keying the amp as I've outlined above, would be greatly appreciated. TIA Alan Raskind, AB6C

LO off QRG
12
Hello ! I am new hire so warm hello for all IC7000 owners. My rig serve me perfect for 6 years in many UHF SHF test and I am still fascinated with it. To be quick: my LO is off. On 2m 1,2 kHz and on 70 cm 4 kHz. I am low with LO so I can not reach exact LO of 124.032 . In DDS calibrating routine I tried from OOh to FFh but nothing happens after returning to main menu as additional problem. Of course I press SET button ; ) When I adjusting DDS LO i can see change. This change is not sufficient to be exactly on 124.032. I am always off and little bit down.I can change cca 100 Hz from 00 to FF. When I step out from service routine no change is noticeable on real QRG like DDS service routine doesn't catch. Do I make something wrong?. I tried to find answer from previous messages but I am not sure I get right one. I have USA version of radio and frequency counter. In normal OTH REF Adjustment I can change almost 7kHZ range but always down of proper frequency. Could some other setups interfere? Could I improve situation with master reset? If someone went true this issue on his radio please advice! Thanks in advance. Best regards, Luci , 9A1Z

connecting external monitor
13
Hi all, I'm hoping to connect a small external monitor (6" or 7"). It looks like the 3.5mm female plug on the back of the 7000 would feed to a typical yellow RCA plug. I saw this box which looks like it would do the trick, since I did not find an adapter online. https://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-HD1882-Composite-Converter-Monitors/dp/B009OMYHJU/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2X81E9C7MHS17&keywords=vga+to+3.5mm+male+video+adapter&qid=1679895885&sprefix=vga+to+3.5mm+male+video+adapter%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzRVo4WERCNEg2UDdEJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODQ2MjM5MVVTSDJIUTBST0dQViZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjQ4MjY2M0RGMTNQRUZVMzJRTCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= If you're using a different type of hookup please email me. On a separate note, it appears the shield for the 60m diode mod to open up the band is securely fastened to the board. Does anyone know if there is a trick or workaround to removing it to get to the SMT diode to remove it? At this point I'm afraid to proceed for fear of cracking the traces if the board bends too far. 73 Darrell AB2E

help using IC-7000 on 60m/solution found
Hi all, Thanks for the replies so far with suggestions. Looking in the archives I discovered that my s/n is below the number at which 60m became standard on the 7000. So while the radio stores the 60m frequency, it can't xmit. So I need to do the mod provided by W3AHL's post " To enable the new channel on radios prior to serial # 0514455, it is necessary to remove diode D2172 on the Main board. This opens up the entire 60M band (not just the FCC allowed channels for amateur radio). " I'm not sure why the original 5 frequencies will not transmit, we'll see if it all works after the mod, hopefully so. My friend KN2U has the tools needed to work on surface mount boards and is doing the mod for me. Thanks to all who replied and 73, Darrell AB2E Monroeville NJ

help using IC-7000 on 60m
4
Hello all, New to the group, and just got my new (to me) IC-7000 today. Setting it up, got it running fine (years ago I had an IC-706MKIIG and notice the many similarities). Here's my question. I want to use the 7000 sometimes on 60m, mostly FT8, so I entered and stored 5.357 (the WSJT-X FT8 frequency) with the HM-151 mic. OK, so far so good, changing bands it now has added 5.357 as I scroll between 80 and 40. I key the rig either with my CW paddle, or with the handmic. No TX red LED on the rig, but the red LED on the mic does light when I press the TX button. I see on p40 of the manual about operating 60m, it says to set the rig to only the 5 frequencies listed. I initially tried the first one, 5.33050 but with the same result, no TX on the rig. What else do I need to do to get it to xmit on 60m? 73 Darrell AB2E

Scratchy noise on RX
5
This morning, my IC7000 started producing a very loud "scratchy" noise when in RX. It is not RF since it will produce the noise with the antenna disconnected, band and mode don't affect the noise. The radio is normal at power-on, but the noise will start anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes after power-on and comes from either the internal speaker or headphones. Reducing the AF to 0 silences the noise, and its level tracks the AF somewhat (the noise is VERY loud, so it is easy to hear even at the lowest AF setting above 0). I tried a different power supply and it took about 30 minutes after it had been off for several minutes. "Fiddling" with the power cable doesn't affect the issue either way. Sounds like a thermal-runaway somewhere in the radio, but wanted to see if anyone else had seen this issue before I put the radio on the bench. Cheers, Joe
