I guess we all have to realize, our beloved '7000 radios are getting old (hi hi) and nothing lasts forever. Since Icom has discontinued the radio (sad), they cannot be replaced, so we all do our best to take care of them. Each day I fire up my 13 yr old '7000, I hold my breath (hi hi). I keep mine clean inside and out, keep it cool (important), and make sure it always sees a good match when transmitting. Mine is almost always used on CW (chasing SKCC contacts), and rarely run it more than 50% power.
So far, so good! ;-)

Yes, they are getting up in age.? My new-to-me 7000 was run mobile most of its previous life and developed major problems.? It was given to me, so I took the risk and had it repaired for mobile use.? It now has new problems.? Though it does work on all bands, sadly, the receive now pops in the background, and it has birdies that come and go.?
Perhaps well-cared-for 7000's will continue for years to come?? They may, but in my case, I am looking at new radios for my mobile.? If Icom would come out with a new radio similar to the 7000, I would buy one immediately!?

The Birdies and pops may be from your mobile installation.? Have
you tried it in your shack?
The IC-7100 was the replacement.? The wedge shape control head
seem more suited for a desk than a dashboard but it works.? Some
guys are using IC-7300 for mobile.? The IC-705 would need a
100-200 watt amplifier and manufacturers don't want to make them.

Book says stay under 30 wpm. Got one burp at 35, never again. Guess it practiced.

It’s been worth it. I have a 7000, if I don’t use it for a month, I have to get out the book. Ran the 705 for six months before the amp. Worked a bunch on 10 watts, even ‘dx pile-ups. The two inch speaker is good enough. K1EL keyer, built in. Running SDR software, so ALL the menu buttons and pan adapter are on the big screen. WiFi server built in. Ran it from an iPad.

Still running my IC-7000 in the car in typical Chicago winters....for over 6 years now..? with turbo tuner and tar hell antenna...
No issues aside from replacing the inline fuse holders with a in line circuit breaker ( from audio high power versions) .
Still the best radio for mobile use.

I kinda like the sloping front on the desk and it can work mobile, but that has to be thought out a little more.
I had three IC-7000s and loved them, but sold them because parts were getting hard to find and some impossible.
I don't know why Icom even makes a radio without a color display.

Also it would be great if there were something like a HDMI or at least a video output to a large screen like the IC-7000 had.

The cost difference with a color screen could be much greater than $5.00. When Icom is designing a radio they can't just select whatever the latest LCD is available on the market for cheap. They have to deal with an industrial manufacturer that plans to keep producing the screen for many years. That typically comes with a much higher price. Icom products typically have a long life cycle which means extensive planning to ensure the components needed will (hopefully) be available for many years. The current component shortages have only made that tougher.
That all said, there is a reason the value on the used market for the 7000 is very high. It's just a fantastic radio and that color screen grabs everyone's attention.? I think not making the 7100 color was a huge miss by Icom.

My wish is a 100w radio with a 705 type front panel and a remote chassis, similar to the 7100 form factor but updated!
I have a 7000 and 7100. The above dream machine could replace both for my use.

Maybe an IC-705 with amplifier and tuner? I have one on my bench in for a MARS mod and it is a nice rig, but I would want that 100 watt amp with a built in tuner. I am not particularly into QRP and you CAN turn the power down on most rigs if you want.

there are two amps out there but there are nearly to cost of the
IC-705 or Ic-7300.
On the other hand the IC-7100 can be bought used for around
$800.00

Funny that you have to pay a premium for less.
The LAB599 PA-500 is nice looking with an 50-80 watt amp and auto tuner.
Bu the time you have added the accessories it looks like you will have over $2000 pretty easily.
Not a bad radio, especially if you are into QRP.
While I had the IC-705 pictured above I compared it with the IC-7600 below. The receivers were of comparable sensitivity, but I still like the sound of a superhet better on CW.
The IC-7100 was also comparable and none of the recent Icoms I have tried has been significantly better or worse than the others, but they each have their points.
Currently I love the IC-7600 I traded my IC-7300 for as it just sounds better than all of the others (on CW).?
The other issue for me is the touch screens and the menus that an old guy has to remember. I kinda like the control on the front panel, but that takes more space and adds to the cost with more controls to buy and install.
But then you expect more from even an older higher end radio than a mid-range unit.
However if you correct the real cost today for these very good radios with the real cost of the older radios you can see that you are getting a lot for your money!
