Re: Getting Old (hi hi)

I use the LDG tuner that was designed as a match to the IC-7000 and have been trying to find a record of where I got my cable.? I think I got it from LDG themselves.?

Icom has used the same four pin, single row tuner connector forever.? I did a quick check on eBay and the only seller of LDG to Icom cables I saw was in the UK.?

I'd check with LDG.?

Re: Getting Old (hi hi)

Hi Martha
if you go to the ldg electronics groups io, they have all the dwg for the cables there, the icom is a very simple one,
Thanks Dave 2E0DMB

auto band switching voltage mod

Hi Does anyone know why icom did the auto band switching voltage as a mod, and not have it working from the start without soldering a link between tracks,
Thanks Dave

Re: Getting Old (hi hi)

Does the tuner have a cable for the standard Icom? if so that will work. If it will emulate an AH-3 or 4 it will work OK using the 4 pin connection on the back for the tuner/

Re: Getting Old (hi hi)

I'd like to use my LDG AT-100 ProII with my IC-7000 but I do not know how to hook it up. Any tips.
Thanks

Re: restarting

Thanks all the input, I've been out of radio for 15 years and seems my diagnostic skills have gone on vacation. I have checked the fuses at the battery since this is mobile. I don't have a seperation cable yet so it's a one piece install. I checked the fuses at the radio, they are a good connection. However after reinserting the fuses the radio no longer resets. So I cleaned the connections and everything thing is now good.
VA7CPC mention a cleaner I've never heard of so I will try this as a preventative measure.??
Thanks for ALL the input. Now just programming this great little radio.
Thanks again for the feedback.?

Probably the best contact cleaner and preserver. Works wonders.

As I remember, the IC-7000 has the same kind of separable faceplate that the IC-706 used.

?

The contacts for that connection (on both the main radio body, and the faceplate) are _very_ sensitive to dirt.? I've had to clean them with a Q-tip and alcohol, when they looked OK, to cure "radio cutout" and "radio no-start" problems.

?

The problem occurs with, or without, the "remote cable".? I suspect the mating force, on the gold-plated contacts, is quite low.

?

And we all know about the problems with corroded fuses in the power cable.? I fixed that with Boeshield T9, which leaves a waxy residue which is _very_ effective at keeping water out, and preventing corrosion.? For land mobile, any oil-containing contact cleaner would be OK.

Re: restarting

That 3 volt drop is probably much more that is so quick you cannot see it and enough to drop out the radio.
If you are measuring at the 13.8 volt point on the tuner plug it would be a good indication that is the problem.
Clean the fuses and all of the connections.?
If you had 13.8 volts and a 3 volt drop you are left with 10.8 volts and that is too low, especially since you are probably not seeing the total instantaneous drop, which is higher. The radio will see it and shut off.

Re: restarting

Started the truck no restart on the radio. Checked voltage when I key up it drops 3vdc. This pulles a lot more than what I took out. Of course maybe not so bad, at least I won't run my battery down when in the sticks watching a bike race.
Thanks everyone I'm still suspicious about buying this new in the box radio that has been setting in storage since purchased.? I know and trust the guy I bought it from, but still.

Re: restarting

As others have said, this may be the supply voltage problem. If you are doing this and a vehicle and the engine is not running, try it with the engine running.

Re: restarting

No expansion cable, yet. No tuner since no HD is connected.?

Re: restarting

Forgot to mention it's in my pickup. I'll check the voltage. This is replacing my kenwood tm-733,? untill I get it fixed, lost vhf xmit.

Check your ground included the ground screw on the expansion cable

Can I be the first one, if not join others that suggest to check/clean your in line fuses on your power cable, also checking that your power supply is up to the task.

Re: restarting

You may have a bad connection in the power cable. Corroded fuse holder etc are common.
When the current draw goes up the voltage drops to the point where the radio shuts off. Check with a meter oer a light bulb across the power. The 4 pin tuner jack has the 13.8 voltage on it and is a good place to measure the voltage.

Re: modding the Driver board , so it does not fry,

Per the tuner statement, I lost a driver when I had an auto tuner go crazy when an antenna was connected incorrectly (wrong antenna!).
This is the only time I had a driver issue on one of my IC-7000

Re: modding the Driver board , so it does not fry,

Thanks Steve
its a smd?
on trx bench on youtube had some that the driver was badly burnt, but he did not know how it was used,
Thanks again,
Thanks Dave
