Blake sorry I misread?your message I thought you were asking about the control port on the icom ic R7000 not the ic7000 which I also own and use. Actually I have one of those on the bench now. It is well after midnight and it has been a long day. I will pull out my service manual in the morning ? and look to see what I can do as to the parts situation on the ic7000 transceivers control port. Yes mine has had that problem twice before from the same residual lightning ? strike. I have repaired it both times once was years ago when icom was still actively supporting these units, however it was cost prohibitive even then because they wanted to do a board swap at over half the cost of replacement. The second time was a couple of years back I found the parts in Canada ?? and I bought all they had in stock. While most of the parts are standard parts they are still not easy to come by. I have since moved my repair facility some 60 miles away from Atlanta and still have a lot of my stock in storage, but I know where most of the items for the ic R70, R71, and R7000 because I maintain several of these units. I do not know what price you were quoted, but parts and labor for a repair such as yours should not run more than $275.00 not including?shipping and insurance costs. I absolutely will not accept or ship unless the unit is properly insured because shippers are getting bad about losing and or damaging shipped items. So they must be packaged ? properly and insured for the proper amount regardless of who the shipping company is.
