Re: IC7000 50 Mhz power output
Are you sure that:
1. Your RF OUTPUT POWER is not set at 50W RF OUT in the menu for 50MHz (rather than at 100W out), or that:
2. You are in AM mode, as that mode limits you to 40W RF out? maximum in AM.
Factory spec is 100W RF Output power from HF to 50MHz.
Otherwise it would seem that there may be trouble afoot. The IC-7000 is known for having RF driver failures, which almost all the time seems to be accompanied with an HF or VHF or UHF power amplifier transistor failure as well. I know from experience as my 7000 one day about 5 years ago, "died" unexpectedly, without any warning of any kind. Just wouldn't transmit on any band as the driver feeds all 3 PA transistors. Sure enough, the driver did die, and (wanting company, haha) took the UHF PA transistor along with it. Sent it in to SARTS in MI for repair and had both replaced at my expense of course. It's been fine since, so I keep my fingers crossed, but in the last 5 years its still been working fine. I've never run it as a base, only mobile, and overall, I've been very happy with it.
I've hopefully attached a photo of the spec copied from the latest IC-7000 brochure printed.

Typically, the mic that came with the "earlier" 7000's were made in Japan as was mine. The "later" ones were made in China. If you look on the back of the mic it will be prominently marked as to where it was made. Apparently the later Chinese made mic's did employ a different mic element, and therefore did not appear to need any transmit audio intervention, but did get a new PTT switch, both of which were definitely needed. I did encounter the PTT failure, and did replace the microswitch in my mic. An obvious poor quality part was used.
Because of all the negative posts, comments and reviews, of the 7000's transmited audio obviously prompted mods to "fix" this problem, such as Bob, AB5N's well known mod; along with a number of other folks "fixes" including change of mic element, baffleling the element or even changing the way it's mounted, etc. I assume all of these mods had some degree of improvement one way or another. I too was considering having Bob do mine too if not for that unexpected QSO that I posted about. For me, the TBW settings fixed everything for me. As is always (or should be) always said, YMMV.

YES you can used the PANASONIC WM61A but the newest is PRIMO EM 258 and is real to find in the UK. To me work with good audio report and full audio spectral frecvency. Chose the PRIMO EM258 and beware to fake PANASONIC WM61 A or B because is obsolete the originals I find the original very hard and to reconised have two colors mark on the back of capsule aproach the pad solder : green and purple. As user manual said, the nominal? output power in 1.8-50 Mhz should be between 2-100 W.
All is ok until 28 Mhz in my rig, but in 50 Mhz power only reach 50W.
It is a my rig failure, or a manual spec mistake ?

OK on your comments about the mic element replacement. I don't
doubt that doing that will improve the audio further, but for
"communications quality" the original one is fine by me.
Speaking of vinyl (and completely off topic), I have a copy of
Felipe De La Rosa - Flamenco Fever (M & K) that I've had for
years. Was shocked, but I shouldn't say surprised, when I saw what
a good copy is going for these days. I knew it was an amazing
recording when I got it (many years ago), but didn't think that it
would become a legend as the Holy Grail of system performance
tests.
Was rather a trip to listen to that on my Klipsch La Scala
speakers. Some 40 years on from when I originally bought them,
those speakers are currently on loan to a small performance venue
nearby along with their partner, my Crown D-150A amp, and continue
to get rave reviews. My Flamenco Fever copy hasn't been played in
that many years and I would disrespect it to play it on my current
turntable.

A while back, my wife and I had been making yearly cross-country trips from
the east coast (where I live now) to the west coast where we moved from.
I too wondered about my transmit audio on my 7000. Even listened in monitor
mode, but was never really convinced one way or another how it really sounded.
I usually operated mobile on 40 thru 10 meters. Let me tell a short story:
I called CQ one day, and was answered by a ham who ID'd, and said right off the
bat, that I was running an IC-7000. You can imagine my surprise with me not
having given him ANY info on what I was running. I asked him how he knew it was
a 7K. He said he could tell by my audio, which to my surprise had never been
mentioned before as being anything other than good.
He said he had 2 IC-7000's, and that I had my TBW settings wrong, and if I could
change them right now, he would guide me setting them. I said OK, since my XYL
was driving.
Going to the SSB Menu TBW settings, I set values as follows:
WIDE LOW 100 QS Menu Setting #3 M-3 TBW Hold for 1 Second
WIDE HIGH 2900 QS Menu Setting #4 M-3 TBW Hold for 1 Second
MID LOW 200 QS Menu Setting #5 M-3 TBW Hold for 1 Second
MID HIGH 2900 QS Menu Setting #6 M-3 TBW Hold for 1 Second
NARROW LOW 300 QS Menu Setting #7 M-3 TBW Hold for 1 Second
NARROW HIGH 2900 QS Menu Setting #8 M-3 TBW Hold for 1 Second
MIC GAIN 50% QS Menu Setting #2 M-3 TBW Hold for 1 Second
COMPRESSION ON M-3 COM Hold for 1 Second
Once I changed to these settings, he said "NOW it sounds like a 7K SHOULD
sound". Ever since I changed to these settings, I have been told the 7K's
transmitted SSB audio sounds great, fantastic. And this has been from dozen's of
contacts since changing my TBW settings. BTW, my mic has NOT been modified by
Bob, AB5N, and, as in a previous posting from Perry, K4PWO (above) mentioned:
"If you have a mid-range voice, only the Japanese versions of the HM151 have the
problem.? The later Chinese made mikes are fine with an average voice BUT you must
use the TX equalizer in the radio’s menu to boost bass and mid-range while cutting highs."
By the way, my HM151 mike is the Japanese mic, and the only one I've ever used
with my IC-7000.
So this is my story for what it's worth. Hope this helps, it certainly did help me. And I
still love and use my IC-7000 mobile.

This is the voice recorder mode that allows you to record and send audio messages.? I've seen a schematic that will allow you to outboard the functions to handy dandy box that is more convenient (think contests).? I've also seen a commercial outboard device - kind of a plug and play - but can't find the reference. Anyone recall the manufacturer of that outboard?
