Re: External Didplay

Looks interesting if you are using a Yaesu rig.
I don't think it will do you any good on an Icom IC-7000 though.

The 7000 has a composite?video output.
Look around for the 5" to 7" back up camera monitors/

Re: ci-v usb ftdi CAT cable

Consider that the problem may not be in the FTDI driver, but in the installation of the software trying to use the driver (CI-V Scout, etc.).? Windows home edition does not have the same installation privileges of? Windows Pro.? Install Windows 10 Pro on the laptop (you will get "unlicensed" nags in your taskbar, but it will run),? and see what happens.? The driver information here may help:

Re: ci-v usb ftdi CAT cable

Thanks Gail,
I actually did that couple of days ago but always get the same results. Interface would ID itself correctly but radio doesn't see it or communicate with it.?
Radio has the interface always plugged in and if I switch to Windows 11 PC, radio works. Immediately after changing to correct settings for the radio.
Works on another similar Laptop with slower processor without updating any drivers.??
The other thing I noticed that the Windows 10 Laptop won't communicate with the WinKey USB as well. Same issue, recognizes the port as FTDI COM4.?
Just finished updating to the latest BIOS version and another Factory reset on this Laptop.?
Will give it another go later tonight.??

Adam,

I would use REVO uninstaller (free) and completely uninstall (including the scanned registry entries)¡. Search for any USB references¡. Go to and install Revo (excellent group-install site).

Reboot ¨C and install the most recent FTDI drivers.

[Reason: Found that Universal Bus Controller window changes when program starts so the last 2 look the same as the first 2 after the program starts.]

Getting closer to figuring out what is going on but don't know how to resolve it. The problem seems to be with the way driver is installed. Checked with another almost identical to my laptop Acer 64 bit Win 10 OS. When the interface was plugged in, it was recognized right away. FTDI Driver version same on both PCs. The other day I did the following:
?- complete factory reset of laptop with the exception of reformatting the drive.?
?- installed the latest FTDI VCL? driver
- plugged the interface into the port, chime sounded, COM3?
- started N1MM logger, no communication with the radio.
- plugged in WinKey USB (using FTDI driver), chime sounded, COM4
- nothing from WinKey.
The FTDI driver is not installing correctly, why?

My guess is this is more of an challenge for someone more in-depth working with windows registry. Somehow I believe that window reinstall to Factory setting doesn't really do a clean install.?

Any other suggestions?

Different computers, different operating systems ¨C I am sure you have methodically tried to whittle things down (and I am a brute-force kind of guy).

This may be obvious ¨C but have you booted into your bios on the laptop ¨C and set it to default factory settings?? Are there any settings that set your USB to ¡®legacy¡¯ or 3.0, or any advanced security settings on the USB ports (i.e. to shut them off ¨C I have a system that did that (to prevent USB sticks from downloading data)).

After the bios check, I sit the systems side-by-side, and step through each parameter to make sure I have not missed something. ?Another option is to put Win 10 in a virtual machine (like ) on the system that works (a guest OS on top of Windows 11 ¨C a little more complex, great learning experience.

And finally ¨C what if you installed Win11 Pro on the system that has Win 10 on it ¨C and see if it works on that laptop as it does the Desktop?

You will sort it out (it¡¯s only a computer).
