Re: I hear audio in the speaker when transmitting

Hi guys, thank you all for your replies.

@Hugh: My radio is a 706mkiig,?it shouldn't have the monitor functionality.

@davebb: I haven't tried the data socket yet.?Now I also write in the other forum.

@Brian, @davebb
Regarding the T/R relay (RL1 on the filter board?), what kind of checks should I do on the circuit? do you check the welds? check its driver Q1? or other? thank you

@Rick Robinson:?I've already done some checks on the screws, masses and cables. Which card in particular should I check?

Re: I hear audio in the speaker when transmitting

Even though this is an IC-7000 group, the radio in question is an IC-706MKiiG so it can't be that.

Today I was able to test the radio with a dummy load. The problem manifests itself the same way as the antennas I tested. I am attaching an example . So can it be ruled out that it is RF getting back into the radio?
Any other ideas?
Thank you.

Re: I hear audio in the speaker when transmitting

My suggestion is to open the radio and snug, not over tighten, the circuit board mounting board screws and check all ribbon cables for full and square insertion. I took the extra step and used exact size star washers for a proper ¡°bite¡±. This step will certainly not hurt anything if done carefully. It helped a audio problem I had with my 706MK2G that I ran mobile.?

You do not hear FM because of the way it is modulated,
Try and have a look at the TX/RX switching, what happens if you use the data socket, also have you asked in the 706 forums?

Hi everyone,
i am having the same problem with my icom 706mk2g. The problem of the audio emitted by the speaker in TX occurs on all bands, mainly in AM and a little in SSB, and grows by increasing the RF power. However, it does not appear on FM. Tried checking grounds on all boards (loosening and tightening screws and securing contact points with outer case), but no fix. Is the only way to mute the speaker? Also I noticed that toroidal inductor L174 makes a loud hum on AM.
Thank you.

Re: I hear audio in the speaker when transmitting

I can see it now, thanks.

It sounds very like the MONITOR feature (as in the IC-7000) but I don't think that is a feature in the IC-706 line.

Very weird.

Re: Scratchy noise on RX

After much hair-pulling, I have determined that the likely cause was a thru-hole via failure somewhere in the speaker amplifier circuit.? This seems to be a common problem with ICOM radios (more common than I'd like, anyway).

Since the PCB has tented vias, I chose to run jumpers-wires to bypass most of the vias (this also saves me from having to remove several parts that cover one or both sides of the vias in question).

The bad news is that it is likely only a matter of time before another via fails in some other part of the PCB.

Thatisall.

FS: Mint Front Panel Display Head for IC-7000 - Display /Control Only -

jsternmd

I recently sold my IC-7000 with remote MB-60 and MB-105.? I have for sale a mint (new when I bought it a few years ago) front panel display control head.? It has less maybe 1-2 hours of use and it works like a new display, 100%.? Last checked this week before I packaged up the IC-7K for shipping.? Asking $300 which includes USPS Priority shipping to continental USA.? USPS Money Order, Personal Check or Zelle.

I originally bought it with the idea of making a custom split cable (and switch) to have one display control head in my basement workroom and the other display control head upstairs in the shack.? Never got around to it though so my loss is your gain.?

ICOM never put serial numbers on these heads so I am nervous about selling it and someone swapping a bad head for a return.? Therefore, I will place the buyers initials in indelible marker ink on the back of the panel head (tiny letters, I promise) just for my own peace of mind.

Thanks for the bandwidth

Jerry NY2KW (ex-K1JOS)?

Re: I hear audio in the speaker when transmitting

Hi try putting a 50ohm dummy load on the radio and see if it still is happening, if it is not it is RF getting back into the radio,
Try a common mode choke on the coax at the antenna and if you still have it one at the radio end,
Dave

Re: Memory Bank Selection with Chirp for IC-7000 #all

Using the world-famous "trial and error" method,? I have a work-around to enable loading into different memory banks on the IC-7K. Because it's free don't expect much...

Here are some steps to load multiple "Banks" onto the IC-7000 using Chirp.

Comments: the "Banks" tab on the left of the Chirp screen only tells you which memory numbers correspond to which Bank. Knowing that the IC-7000 has 99 memories per Bank tells you everything you need to know; the little check boxes shown in the Banks display do nothing. For example, you cannot select memory 13 (in bank A) and then select Bank B (by checking the B box) and get the result copied into the higher memory numbers (99-198 for Bank B).
The way to get information into Banks B, C, etc. is to type (or cut/paste) into the Chirp Memory display at the appropriate memory channel number.
For Bank B, for example, a memory number in the range 99-198. You can figure the rest by multiplication.
Be sure to save your memory information in some spreadsheet, as if the IC-7000 gets reset, you have lost it all. Note that the export function in Chirp (at least in my Linux version) only gives a fraction of the information you put in, as a CSV file.

Steps:
1) download your existing memories from the IC-7000 into Chirp,
2) in Chirp, select a Memory Range 0 - 494,
3) enter the new contents into the appropriate channel numbers,
4) forget about the "Banks" tab.

The Chirp display is "live" for the IC-7000; there is no need to upload to the radio.
