The 7K's aren't much more DC voltage dependent than any other mobile HF radio, IF the poorly designed fuse holders on the factory DC power cable are replaced with good quality 30 amp holders that bite through the fuse blades' surface oxidation that builds up over time.? Cleaning the fuse blades will help temporarily, but the fuse holders have an inherent design flaw, compared to typical automotive-style ATC fuse holders.? Of course there can be other sources of voltage drops that all add up in a mobile or battery-powered installation.? There should be less than 500 millivolts drop from the battery terminals to the TUNER port pins 3-4 under load in a proper installation.

A properly adjusted 7K will operate down to 10.9 VDC (as measured across the TUNER port pins 3-4 while transmitting with the TX PO=100%).? The output power will decrease by 50-60% compared to 13.8 VDC.

Below about 10.5 VDC the radio will do a reset of the CPU, mainly designed to protect the radio during a power-up cycle until the supply voltage is stable.? IC1301 is the reset control IC for the CPU.

Transmitting at 100W on just battery power (without the engine running) is not good practice.? Adding a battery booster just makes a bad situation worse for? battery life.? Dropping the TX PO to 50W only decreases the received signal by 3 dB, but can quadruple battery run time typically.

I had this exact problem with my 7000 as well on 40m only. Turned out to be RF in the shack. In the days before I had proper 1:1 Current BalUns in the feed coaxes. The culprit turned out to be a secondary feeder used to connect a SDR to a different antenna conducting RF back to the shack via the outer face of the coax braid. The moment I slugged the cable with some clip on ferrite sleeves at the shack end and a BalUn at the antenna end the problem disappeared.

Nott at home, so don't have a dummy load, but will try the ferrites.

I would start with some ferrite but also try a dummy load at full power. If the radio shuts down then check the fuse holders by reseating both fuses. 73 GL

Anyone had this issue.? Powered by a LiPo battery and using a 1/4 vertical with a wolf river coil with an swr less than 1.5.? When transmitting CW at 100 W, the unit will shut down.? If I turn down the power to 25 W this won't happen.? Doesnt happen on 20m. Any ideas?

Have you tried disconnecting the footswitch from the AD-1-iCM to see if that makes a difference? Have you also tried moving the AD-1-iCM to the front mic connector?

I just bought these items and when I plug the adapter in to the back of the rig, the mike is already hot and the headset doesn't work. ?I have a foot switch attached. ?Any help would be appreciated.

The radio draws 12A of current on tx?
It txs fine audio out fine? but obv heats up fast?
Any ideas i checked adj mode its all set ok?

I had this happen several times many years ago, but don't have any notes on what I did to correct it.? I vaguely remember it being a problem with not having the HF antenna coax connector shell fully tightened and causing RFI perhaps.? I know I didn't have to repair anything inside the radio to correct it.

Andrew,? You don't specify which voltages appear on which leads of Q101.? I don't have my 7K and test equipment with me at my current location, but you should see the collector be about 13.8 VDC in RX mode and about 0.7 VDC in TX mode.? The emitter is tied to ground, the base is controlled by T8 (Transmit 8 VDC control signal) through a resistor divider, so it should be about 0 VDC in RX and something less than 8 VDC in TX.

This RF Switch is used to mute the RX signals coming from the PA board via J101 to the RX IF circuits during TX mode.? It doesn't affect the TX output functions.

Sometimes after I send CW, the transmitter will go into transmit (tx light on) and stay on even though I have quit sending.? If i push the power button it will stop transmitting,? I am not turning it off, it just stops transmitting.

Any one had this issue?

Steve what should the voltage be on ic Q101 I am getting 0.751 aand 13.8 is this correct (whilst i transmit) 0 volts and 13.8 volts when i do not transmit!

Maybe there is an issue with how the scope is set up?? The probe's slide switch should be on 10X and the Channel Menu for Probe should be 10X also.? Maybe the trigger level is set too low or the horizontal sweep rate is too fast.? When you press and hold the key for a few seconds, do you see the voltage stay at the level show on your previous post?

Parts on the MAIN board are very sensitive to static discharge and can be damaged by a zap (or by a probe tip shorting two leads together).? You should wear an ESD wrist band that is grounded through a 100K ohm resistor and work on an unfiinished wooden or carboard surface (a grounded conductive ESD mat is better) also.??
