Worth Fixing IC-7000 suspected Blown Driver?

Mike

Hello group,

? I was driving down the road listening to 40 meters? when I seen and smelled smoke. When I got home I pulled the rig body that was mounted under the passengers seat and noticed the smell was coming from the rig body.

? ?I suspected the dreaded driver board went. Is this worth fixing? I do have the technical ability to do surface mount repair. What will this cost? Will it happen again?

? ?If I choose not to fix it, what is the radio worth with separation kit?

Thanks1

Rear mic port not working

Dustin N8RMA

Hello all - just inherited a well-loved IC-7000 and I'm working my way through it.

Long story short - I noticed there was no RF output on SSB, but there was CW and while tuning. After some troubleshooting I determined it was likely a bad hand mic. Then I realized there is an auxiliary mic port on the underside of the radio faceplate. When connecting the mic there, it works.

Has anyone had the rear mic port crap out on them? Is this a common issue? Or is there a setting somewhere I'm missing?

Re: protective side rails for IC-7000

Mine came? today..

There are a few different mods to the radio to improve the cooling.

Great to hear your support for PortableZero. And the reminder about the IC-7000 running hot and need for cooling.
I've ordered a set of IC-7000 rails and await delivery.
Thanks for the help.

Re: protective side rails for IC-7000

I have those side rails on my IC7300, FT817 and ordered for my IC7000.

Not cheap but a good product and really makes handling the radio easier.

It runs warm. Doing the fan mods, there are several, does help greatly.

If in a bag/case/box? provide some way to get air to it.??

I had forgotten about that feature of the 7000. Don't plan to operate within a bag.

Note that the front of the rails are splayed outward as you desire.? I am not affiliated with Portable Zero, but I do have a set of these rails on my IC-7000.

Re: protective side rails for IC-7000

There are 3D printable rails at?.? It's unclear if this addresses the knob issue but is a good starting place to modify them if necessary.

Understanding The Reversed Flag

The flag is typically worn on the right shoulder of a military uniform, with the stars facing toward the front of the person wearing the uniform. One reason for this is because, when the flag is displayed this way, it appears to be "flying" as the troops march forward. To help visualize this, think of an??flying in the wind on a flagpole. The canton is always facing towards the front, with the stripes “flowing” behind.

So when the U.S. flag is displayed on any object that is moving, including a person in uniform, the field of blue must be displayed towards the front of the object to indicate the flag is always flying.

Don’t know what to tell you Jim. I have purchased frames that are very well made from CNC cut aluminum. There are many positive reviews on Youtube. They do make a frame specifically for the IC-7000.
I can’t find the reference ?at the moment but I believe Armoloq is a veteran owned American company.
I was trying to be helpful, now I’ll just keep quiet.

Re: FS: Mint Front Panel Display Head for IC-7000 - Display /Control Only -

Hi.
I need this front control panel.
Is it still available?

Re: Ic-7000 cuts off until warmed up

You are a problem in main unit with reset signal; this signal goes in error mode and it blocks DDS UNIT. So you loose RX and no TX. When you turn off and then on the radio, suddenly works but when you use DIAL, CPU goes a bad signal in RESET mode. You have to check main unit with 3 chips closer each other. You have to follow RESET line from LOGIC BOARD to MAIN UNIT. The issue is on MAIN UNIT reset line.

Hello All.

Problem with IC-7000. After about a 20 minute warm-up no problem.

I acquired an IC-7000 from a silent key. Maybe it was used once. Perfect except when I first turn it on it comes up fine. Then when I tune it to a different frequency, I lose reception. Audio still working. No transmission. The I turn it off and back on, all is good. I added a new power cord with fuses. I removed the from panel and inspected inside all tight. The rig was sitting on a shelf for about 8 years and not used. So, is it burning in? Transmits full power on all bands. Thanks to anyone that might have any ideas.
