Re: Display distortion

David et al,

As suggested by Ludovic, it's a good idea to clean the contacts of the head unit and not rush to change display.

If issue persists, you might wanna try a factory reset to see it clears the issue.

Else if it deteriorates further then you should seek someone with more technical expertise imho!

Hello,

it looks more like a signal fault coming to the display.
It's not impossible that it's just a bad contact.
In short, do not rush to change the screen.

Best regards,
Ludovic - F5PBG.

Mario...yes, I see that too.? A little bit of black screen on left side.? Not sure what that would mean.

That was a good while ago, but I don't remember it being especially tricky, just keep the proper alignment of the parts and the orientation of the various layers.
That said I think that I would be tempted to leave it alone. If I remember I had two heads with one working but a bad display and the other with electronic problems and I built one from the two.

Re: Display distortion

Dear David,

Apart from the said color distortion, I realized that there is another problem with horizontal width scan of the display.

Most discernible with the blue background, the black screen space at the hard left and hard right edges.

I checked with my rig and difference is quite obvious when compared.

Heat can also cause this distortion.?

Wayne...yes, it does kind of look like that and I suppose it's a possibility.? ?I'm fairly comfortable taking electronics apart and putting them back together.? Not sure how difficult it would be to access the multi-display layers of the panel.

Re: Display distortion

I have an HT with the same issue and it was caused by being bumped into with a hard surface ( seat belt buckle). Only fix for mine is a new screen. I'll live with it. You might send Icom an image of the damage and see what they have to say. Good luck1!

The fastest way to tell if it’s the LCD is substitute another control head. Maybe you know somebody that has one to test with.

There is no internal fuse for the 12 volts on the tuner connector. There is a surface mounted choke on the DDS unit that’s probably burned out. Depending on how bad it is, there might be some circuit trace damage too.

I just purchased this Icom 7000 used and connected it to my Icom AT180 tuner. It was connected to my 7300 and worked fine. No tune on 7000 so I checked for 12 volts on the tuner plug but its zero volts. Is there an internal fuse that may be blown? Does any of the Menu settings turn off the 12 volts? Did I buy a dud?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: When in service mode cannot do any adjustments

More info would help.? Can you make any adjustments?? Are you sure you have the audio input as specified in the TX setup -- correct connections and right signal level?? Have you verified your coax and dummy load present a 50 ohm load and the DC voltage at the radio are above 13 VDC?

Does the radio produce TX power when operating in normal mode on 10 or 14 MHz?? ?

I've never had any problems doing the adjustments per the procedures, if the radio is working correctly.

Shorting plug in the REMOTE jack? Will it go into service mode without the plug? I've never tried it.

Re: Power Output Meter Reading Low

Repair ships will service 7000 still. I just sent one in. There are two out of warranty repair ships listed on icom website.

A bit more info.

After looking at the readings into the dummy load while the radio was mounted in the car, I then took it into the shack and powered it up using my SEC-1223 power supply. The results were the same. So, since I was using a different power source, a different cable (no blade fuses) but the same load, I'm assuming that the radio has a problem. It might also be interesting to note that the power output readings at the rig on VHF and UHF are also showing low plus when changing HF bands the error is still the same no matter which band I tried.?

I no longer have much test gear here as I just don't have the room for a work bench at the new QTH. I will probably have to contact Icom to see if they still service the '7000 radios.?

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I have learned a lot from you all.
